In the process of redoing the post with pictures after "photobucket" screwed everyone up with their attempted extortion! (please bear with me....) re-creating at the end of this string of missing pictures. Go down and you will start to see pictures.

Well...... This isn't working at all! pictures can't be added without exceeding data limits per post. Perhaps I will start all over again and delete this thread.

And here it is after hauling it up from Indiana to Minnesota (I was pumped!)

Original owner wanted the "Landau" vinyl roof but was told he couldn't get it on an R/T so he ordered it without a vinyl and had the dealer install one.

The hood had been stolen and the roof had some rust holes from the saltwater air exposure while the original owner was stationed at Patrick AFB in Cocoa Beach Fla. So one of the first things I did was replace the roof skin with a nice one off a 1974 parts car I bought, Then I was able to find a hood up in Canada. I also restored the correct date coded 15" rally wheels.

The car didn't look too bad from a distance as far as rust went.... but, it was rusty in some odd spots (again, I assume from the saltwater air) much different from the Minnesota rust I'm used to.

Using pieces off the '74 donor car.

Replaced the driver's side floor pan.

Had some normal rust in the corner of the doors.

Test fit.

Welded in from the inside.

I left the original edge all the way around and filleted the rust out. Then made a patch for the outer skin.

that'll make it pretty complete and I'll have to look for another project.

I've followed the "Young guns project" in this area of the forum. I've enjoyed seeing Steve's progress so much over the years, I thought I would post some pics of my project as it's come along up to now so maybe someone could be encouraged by seeing the fruits of my labor like I've been encouraged by Steve's hard work and ambition..... So here's the story. I purchased my car in November of 2001 after the world trade center mess and was unsure if it was a wise decision not knowing how the economy was going to go with a threat of more attacks. The car is opted with 440 4bbl, slap stick auto, cruise, A/C, power windows, AM/FM, cassette player/recorder, power brakes (front disc), pedal dress up,15" road wheels, six-way seat and it is a stripe delete car. Original owner tells me he checked off "HEMI" as well as air on the order sheet but was informed he had to choose one or the other, being Oklahoma, A/C was more important to him and he "didn't like the cheesy pop-up scoop anyway" Well, I certainly am glad I got it now. It's been a long haul, on and off, but it's nearing completion (or at least I can enjoy taking it out for a ride anyway).

Here is what it looked like from the Ebay pictures

Thanks for the props. That's cool about your car coming from Minnesota, This isn't usually the place you find nice native cars. Your Duster is very sharp! I've always liked that sharks tooth grille, looks sinister!
Thanks again.

Thanks, I used "photobucket" and linked the photos to the post as I went along. Write a little then copy & paste the photo link, then write a little more. Just paste the image link in wherever you want it to go.

That's one of the sharpest car's I have seen in a while. Color combo really makes it stand out. I think it's cool that you left the landau top on and that you did such nice work yourself. I also liked the photos where you painted it in the garage with the haze still in the air.

Excellent job! I will be doing my own body work and paint as well and I feel much better about doing it the more I see other guys doing it as well and having awesome results. The car looks friggen great.

Thanks Cody, I'm sure you DO have the skills.... I've seen the progress of your Duster and it's looking good! Yes, you can use the pictures for your website!

Thanks MRVCODE, I like the looks too but want to get Goodyear Polyglas tires to really give it that "mean" look.

GSS340, I'd like to see pictures of the car you found if you would care to share them.

JRWOODJOE, BIG thanks for the compliments, it really makes it worth it when others appreciate the workmanship put into a project.... HAZE...yeah, I had to wait til it cleared out just to be able to see the car for a picture!

SUPERFREAK, Thanks for the "props", I'd like to see some pics of your project....'69 BEE? My first car in high school was a 69 Super Bee B5 blue with blue interior, white top and white rump stripe. Here is what it looks like today

I'm Thinking of seeing if I could buy it back and make it my next project.

What is that other B-body in the back ground? You can see my project in this forum, it's called Carpenters Special.

I am soooooo freaking excited! I had left a note at guys house yesterday and he called me back just a couple minutes ago...I can have car for $500!!!!!! I am going over first thing in am to pay for it. I'll snap photos and post then. It's a 71 SE, silver with black top, magnum wheels and 318 (which kid says is windowed) he bought off his father in law who was original owner. Says it will start but oil shoots out side of engine. For $500 I dont care! Wish me luck!

Superfreak, sorry for the slow reply... (been very busy lately) First off,Thanks! It's HUGE getting a compliment from somebody that does work of your caliber, I'm impressed with the work you've done! The B-body in the background is a 69 Road Runner 383 4 speed post car that has at least been put inside recently (probably too late) The car is very rough and has the left rear quarter cut off of it. I just went up north yesterday and saw my old car (VERY rough, very sad) and all the other cars this gentleman has. Here's a picture of the Road Runner inside.
The car still has the # matching motor and trans.

Edison (Bryan), Thanks for the compliments, your car looks interesting. My nephew has a FC7 '70 Bee with a 440 4 speed in it now (originally 383 4 speed car).

GSS340 WOW! Did you score big time or what!!!? congratulations on that, and your Son deserves a reward for spotting that, good eyes and GOOD JOB!!

KID, Thank you too, Your car looks KILLER!("so mean it scares me") Red lines, black wheels and 5 chrome lug nuts.... VERY COOL! Very nice "simple engine rebuild"!

I just noticed one more thing. If I scroll down sort of fast on the photos of you doing the burnout, it looks like moving picture of you actually doing it.

That is sweet! I have one just like it here. I've had mine for 7 years now and haven't done much to it except for buying some parts when I found them. Mine was pulled from behind a barn in central Ontario and was last on the road in '83. Enjoy your car and exellent work on the resto!
Steve

Here is a pic of mine in it's current state.

Thanks for the compliment Steve. Cool! Is that originally a GB2 or GA4 color I see on there? Your '72 looks like its coming along nicely!

My '71 is B5, with a B5 interior. My '72 Charger Rallye race car project, I've owned that car for over 15 years. It's A4 light gunmeatal metallic with black guts. I have a 432" Indy headed nitrious motor it should go mid 8's. The '71 is a project I'm going to save for when I'm older.

I finally installed the headliner..... just need to warm it up and see if the small wrinkles go away or if I'll need to do some more stretching........

I can't wait for spring!!!! Here's what we're enjoying right now.

Thank you Mopar Grandpa! Yes, I am very pleased with the way my work has turned out (and I am usually my worst critic) It is fun to drive around and get thumbs up from people who also enjoy seeing these old beasts on the road. Well....... WOOHOOOOO! I'm one more step closer to getting it finished. I needed the hood blackout decal. My brother has a vinyl cutter and said he could make me one if I could get him accurate dimensions so I did a pencil rub of an original decal that I have on a faded old Ramcharger hood , my brother digitized it and..... voila' ...... Here's what he made for me.
The vinyl is 48" wide so he was able to invert the second one and with the taper they both fit across the 48". He also did one in gloss finish for practice to make sure everything was correct ( I think he does VERY nice work!). I went from having none to now having three in one fell swoop! I also bought a set of door depression decals from Phoenix graphics since I didn't have the originals to copy anymore. It would have been difficult to to get them right (or it would have cost more than $16.00 in time to get them right!)but now I've got a pencil rub of them and will be able to make more if ever needed.

Now I just need to warm up the garage and float these babies on.

Thanks guys, Yes it does feel good to be able to enjoy the car now although there seems to always be something more that can be done so they're never really finished.

71383bee: The car is not really coded V4W as that option was not available with the R/T package (for what reason I still don't know) but the original owner ordered it with the white "landau" (canopy) top and was told he couldn't get it that way, only full vinyl or no vinyl, so he ordered it without a vinyl and had the dealer install one. So, I wanted to stay faithful to the way the car was delivered to the original owner..... and I also am partial to the look as I used to own a '71 in high school that was B5 blue and had a white canopy top (not an R/T) in fact here's a picture of it, mirrored windows and all......

So this car kind of brings me back to the high school day memories only its the real deal!

Cool follow up...I knew it was something different! I did not know the canopy roof was not avail for R/T's. They definitely changed that in 72 as I have a friend with a V4X roof on a GY8 400 Rallye charger.

Congrats again and keep it up. I always loved B5 on these cars! Especially the interior! You can't get a blue car with a blue interior anymore!

Beautiful car, the landau top changes the whole look of the 71's. It is a shame the R/Ts weren't available with them. If I ever find the 71 R/T I am looking for, it will get a landau roof.

Thanks CDN72SE, Even though it might look like a lot of pictures, I wish I had taken more pictures along the way as there was much more involved and a lot I just did when I'd get going and then would think oh, dang I wish I had pictures of what it looked like before. but again thank you I do appreciate someone else enjoying the build process as I did.

gss, Thank you too, Yes, I like the look of the landau better myself and was glad that the original owner had the dealer install one so I could keep the car all "correct" as delivered to the original owner. I haven't been able to find anyone that knows WHY they didn't offer the R/T with a landau vinyl and would love to find out the reasoning behind it.

Limelite, Thank you as well, I'm very happy with the car (even though I can pick out all the flaws) and enjoy the way heads turn and comments get shouted across the parking lot as you get in it or drive by, that's the cool stuff... when others enjoy it as well!

Looks great! I've been very, very slowly getting my 71 R/T into shape. Got most of the sheetmetal tackled last year. I'm overseas right now but when I get back in a few months I should finally be able to get her into paint! Seeing success stories like your's and the young guns super bee certainly helps keep the motivation up.

Thanks Bryan, I'd like to see your R/T if you'd care to share some pictures. What are some of the details of your car?

It's a B-5 blue w/black vinyl top 440/4 speed car. Bought it out of Pennsylvania about 10 yrs ago. Right now it's just a shell and still has some sheetmetal work to do before it goes into paint, but it's much much closer than it was even last winter (09-10). I hardly have any of the photos of the car with me, I've attached one of it last yr while the passenger quarter was off.

NICE!! I like it! I wish mine was a 4 speed car but it is all #s matching so I didn't want to mess with it. Did you get an AMD quarter or did you find a nice used one? Any time you want to send some more pictures I'd love to see more.

Used an AMD quarter on that side, used a partial donor quarter on the driver side. The guy who did the work said the AMD quarter was one of the best aftermarket ones he's ever worked with.

Just looking at the pictures you posted....Your outdoor winter shots the wheel wells look nice and black, but the indoor shots they looked faded with some blue overspray...

Just looked again at the outdoor shots...absolutely love that combo, especially with the white halo top

Thanks for the compliments Alan, it's huge coming from a guy who does your caliber of work! I took your advice and blacked them out. I just plain overlooked that with the excitement of just being able to drive the car.

some dirt already in the wheel wells after blacking them out.... gotta drive it!

Thanks Mike. VERY NICE CAR! Is yours an original Elastomeric bumper car? Looks like California plates, is that where you picked it up?

yes, car came from Lancaster, Ca and yes, it has rubber bumpers, has 55K miles. I did cheat and have the original engine rebuilt for care free driving.

Looks good.
For the day 2 look, I would look at getting tires that fill the wheel wells more though. Its easy to spend someone elses money.

I say day two...You gotta fill the FRONT and BACK wheel wells on these 71's, there is so much space, it makes the car look small with bigger tires...

The car looks great!

Thanks 68killer, Yeah the fronts look especially wimpy..... I just had to try them for a showing.

Steve, Thanks for the Props! Your thread was what inspired me to keep on going on my car. Your car looks GREAT although it looks like you may need a set of mud flaps for those Monsters.

Scatpacktom, Thanks. I'm with YOU on this one! I think I'll stick with the Polyglas and rallye's. It would be a shame to use them on a trailer. I think the Dodge boys did a pretty good job hitting the bullseye on looks back in '71.

I don't think it is, but i don't know that for sure. I bought the car in Nov. 2001 and was told by the second owner it had sat in storage for 15 years (Oklahoma). That would bring us back to '86.... First owner said he had a relative with a small car lot sell it for him because it was getting kind of shabby. He was also from Oklahoma.... The first owner was stationed (Air Force) for some time in Cocoa beach Fla. and said that is were it picked up the rust. It would have had to deteriorate pretty much in those three years.
The next time I talk to the original owner, I'll ask if he ever spent time in Utah. Is there an Air force base near there?
Thanks for the reply, another possible part of the story to try and track down.
