I like putting them inside the car then run the wires back through the firewall
I put my rev limiter on top of heater box. Ran power from fuse block, and an unused terminal in bulk head connector for the engine wire

Remember, adding length to the wiring harness will eventually degrade the circuit . It was orginally designed to operate at a certain length wiring harness and extending this length changes the pattern if observed on a lab scope
I find that hard to believe. At 6000 RPM on an 8 cyl. motor, that's only 48kHz. A few straight feet of wire isn't going to do s#!t.

I put mine in the cavity behind the right front headlight and in front of the rad support. I just had my engine wiring harness made so the wire just extends beyond the washer pump down under the frame rail and into the cavity behind the headlight.
That's where mine's hiding.

I put mine under the battery tray. This way no need to drill any holes in the body and the box is readily accessible. I extended the wiring and wrapped it toghether with the existing harness. Works perfect.
Here's one on a B-body. Under the battery tray is where our shop normally mounts them to be out of view.

Actually the Mopar installation instruction sheet specifically states that extending the wires to the box is not a problem.
