Jumping on late, but it seems my combo runs right where it should, middle of the pact with the others posted...
3400lb. Dodge Demon 3.91 gears, 28x9" slicks, 904W, PTC 3K stall, SS springs and snubber.
340 block, .030" over (4.07"), stock caps studs.
MP 4" crank, Eagle SIR rods, dished Diamond pistons.
1800gr bobweight, pistons .005" above deck,1009gskt.
OOTB Eddys, Comp 985 spring upgrade, Crane 1.5rkrs.
Ultradyne ft solid 259/263*@.050, .590/.587",110LSA.
1.75" Hooker SC headers, M1 SP intake, 750 DP carb.

Ran 7.14@96 and 11.21@119 on pump gas in the heat.
Shift at 6000, rpm chip on 6500. Revved as high a 7000 on shifts with no real advantage, tried carbs up to 950 and no benefit there either. Also learned that a Performer RPM AirGap is no slouch on such a motor, same ET and MPH! Very forgiving and robust combos these 4" motors are! I am replacing the above combo with a 13.1 IndyBrock roller 416 (600+hp???) now since I have ladder-barred the Demon now and taken it off the street. The pump gas 416 is getting ported heads, a VooDoo street roller and the RPM AG intake and going in a '79 T&C (LeBaron) station wagon for a sleeper project. Same wide ratio 904, 3000 stall PTC, and 4.10 gears this time... Wish me luck!!! RB

Bighead,

Thanks! that's pretty close to what I'll have and tells me (with 400 pounds less weight and having a little more more stall and gear)I should be able to put this thing safely in the 6.90-6.99 range....which is quick enough for me to have some fun with.

I also like the anvil like reliability a moderately low (6500 is pretty easy on even a 4" arm smallblock) RPM big incher will make

No prob! I always regretted not going with the flat-top pistons, though. I had zero problems with 89 octane, usually ran 92 but I suspect 87 would have worked fine. After detonation problems with an open chambered iron head 440 in my youth, I am always conservative to a fault with compression on a real pump gas street driver. Figured I'da run high 6s and 10s with the flat-tops and a 4.10 gear. Still alot of fun and I hope to get more power this time with the shorter duration but higher lift VooDoo cam and the ported heads. The Demon actually weighed 3100, but I make up the other 300! A car and driver diet and this new race-gas roller motor hopefully will rin mid 6s/10s reliably... RB

My 416 with eddy heads went 11.02 @122 and 1.48 60 foot. best of 6.93 in the eighth @ Roxboro. Good little motor, I wouldn't mind another one!11.3 to 1 compression, ran fine on pump gas .

Yes, it was a stroker. We tried a bigger carb, but the engine did not respond. I think the combo just wasn't right, and like I said before, I'm pretty sure that with 1 3/4- 1 7/8 primaries, a victor 340 intake and a 750 carb the numbers would have been better.

How big was the cam and what was the spread and ICL?

Victor is a real good intake ported...not the best out of the box, needs about 2-3 hours of plenum work and fixing the bad port match but after that it's a real screamer.

I donät remeber the specs anymore, if I remember corrrectly it was 255-260 degrees at .050" and sbout 0.57" lift. It was a custom cam from Scott Brown, so I assume it was a wide LSA, and installed according to the card.

I tend to prefer a tighter lobe spread, particularly on a port limited combination.

My Barracuda “street” car runs a 410 with Eddy heads. It is a pump gas motor, runs 10.90 @ 121 (see sig). Stage 2 port from RyanJ, 10.8:1 comp, 750dp, Air-gap intake, small solid roller (248/254 duration, .576/.582 lift IIRC) 727, 8” vert, 8 ¾ w/ 4.10 gear, 3200#’s.

A very street friendly combo....well, for me anyway .

67 Barracuda street car, 408, e85, 1.38 60', 6.44 @105.9 in the 1/8 mile, 10.19 @130.5 in the 1/4...so far....

Flyfish, that's really impressive performance, especially knowing you're running an air gap intake in the 10's! Judging from your 1/8th vs 1/4 mile MPH My guess is you probably got some more top end HP left in it.

Streetwize, These links have the basic specs of qwkmopardan's stroker SB cars. Good running, simple combos. Fun reading.

Brent,

Thanks for the links!

I think the combo I got ought to run strong, what I want to do is shift some of the torque upstairs so the little 86" WB Rocky doesn't get too squirrely.

Interesting Dan also mentions the need to port the victor, Victor 340's as cast have some particularly thick (well actually REALLY THICK ) runner dividers into the plenum...there's power there if you know how to contour them to enhance the flow.

Looks like I'll have right at 11.8:1 so I think i'm safe with the conservative 480 horse estimate. The victor 340 is coming out nice, I'm gonna try it with a 2" HVH spacer.

Any more real world ET/mph's with stock eddies on a 408-416?

Using the old 4.1 cfm per horse per cylinder, another 30cfm (Ryan's stage 2 porting) should give the motor another 55 or so HP and another 500 or so of Rev cieling.

What concerned me was being able to run the 1/4 mile without the motor gasping for air past 1000 feet or so, I figured the cam I'm running with unported heads would peak around 5600 and the motor would start laying down around 6000-6100. The Extra cfm should get me to ~6500-6600 and let me pull the 4.56/29.5" gears/tires up a bit higher.

What kind of RPM are you solid flat tappet bracket race guys shifting at? I've always found when a stroker is built right and has the right cam you can short shift it ran nearly the same ET's, ain't torque great?

I know of a low budget 408 with stock edelbrock heads that runs mid twelves at 108-109 with 3:55's and low twelves at 110+ with 3:91's. Our track is 2800 ft and they race during the day when it's hot so the corrected altitude goes much higher.

The engine is in a first gen. barracuda street car with full 2-1/2" exhaust. The engine is about 10:1 and has a performer rpm intake, an old swap meet special 750 afb, stock rockers, a moderate hydrallic camshaft, homemade headers, basically a very mild engine.
