Put together a 69 383hp std bore and I have ticking noise like a cricket coming from what sound like the exhaust by the manifold...when you rev the engine it sounds perfect and you can't really hear it when you open the hood but you can hear the noise in the cabin

Sounds like an exhaust leak or a loose plug.

Sometimes if the oil pressure is low at idle a lifter may tap until the pressure spikes when the engine revs a little.

Stock manifolds, rt side? Mine makes a slight tick, leaks by the weighted flapper at cold idle, once it warms up and things expand it's no issue.
