Need some help with my electric fan setup. i have a hole in my Mopar intake manifold that i am assuming is for a fan cut-out switch. Its a 7/16" NPT hole beside the temp sender unit. Now where can you get a thermal switch that turns the fan off? And what is a good temp to turn it off at?

I use the by pass hose port for mine. A lot of the deisel trucks have senders that you can use. Also Moroso has the sender in Summit.

Mine is simply wired to run always. It only comes on after the engine has started (when I release the key from "Start" position). It's all done through relays, and works like a champ!

I had considered using a thermo switch, then I rationalized that the factory fan runs all the time, why shouldn't the electric too?

Hey, it least it's logic!

The ON temperature is really up to you. It will be your highest number.

The OFF temp has to be higher than your thermostat temp or at least above normal operating temp as you run down the highway.

This is important because you don't want your fan running during highway cruise.

I just came a across a kit offered by painless.
They have 2 choices

1-fan on @ 200 off @ 185

2- fan on @ 185 off @ 170

i am thinking the 200 degree one would be best for my 340.

What's your t-stat temp? I ran the Painless 200/185, and with a 180 t-stat, the fan never turned off.

well i havent got a t-stat yet, i am still assembling my car, just added an afco rad & fan so i tought i would setup the switch at the same time. i doubt my car would ever run cooler than 185, thus the fan would never shut off. Hmmmmm this is weird. Would having the fan running on the highway help or hinder the airflow through the rad?

As far as that goes you can always go to a JY and get one off just about any late model car. A lot of them just pop into the radiator fins.
