I got a B series big block mopar from a friend.
on the side where the freeze plugs are it says 3614230

I would think this is a 361 but the date code on the motor is 1971. I didnt think the 361 was made in 71. 230 is a cold weather block correct? i thought it was a 400. now im all confused. any input? thanks guys!

you can see displacement too stamped at a side of dist hole. That could be a very earlier 400, since fist year to 400 was on 72 models

3614230 is the casting number for a 1972 400 block.

On a B engine, the displacement will be stamped on the machined area at the front of the block head surface where it sticks out for the timing chain housing, under the distributor.
