Ive got a 67 a-body that im putting the 4.5" bolt pattern disc brakes on the front, so what are my options for making the rear 4.5" as well? Do I have to get custom axles from moser or the like? Can i just get a set of big bolt axles from a 8 3/4 donor A-body and get the drums to match?

There was never a factory big bolt pattern A body 8.75"

Dr.Diff here on the board can sell you brand new axles for the 8.75 with the big bolt pattern

Depending on your engine and if you don't already have a 8.75...could just use a '73 and up big bolt pattern A body 8.25 too

What rear do you currently have?

8 1/4 rear from a 73+ car.

An A body 8.75 with the axles/drums drilled or a set of aftermarket axles and BBP drums.

Or a B body 8.75 rear with wheels with slightly more offset.

Assuming your working with an 8.75, some guys get donor axles from C-bodies that are the non-tapered variety and have them cut and machined as well. I was going to do this as well but by the time I found/pulled the axles at the yard, boxed them up to ship(pay for shipping) to a machine shop that could do that type of work(pay for the work), waited, and then have to pay shipping back. I said forget it and dropped 300 bones to Dr. Diff and got a set of brand new ones. Or like the other member said, get an 8.25 from another A-body bolt it in and go.

an A-body 7 1/4 will have the bbp also, they are small and easy to brake though!

good for a spare in a pinch too

there are some c-body and truck axles that can be cut and resplined to fit the A-body housing, about 65$ at moser + shipping x 2,they just cant neck down in the area that gets cut and splined

new axles from moser are bolt and play...same with DR Diff

and you can have your small stuff redrilled and get by if ya not it

the moser axles will make it a little wider also cause of the large brake offset on the axle,so measure ya whells good...its like a 1/4 inch each side no biggie

I used 4 1/2" back space on my 7 " rim in a 68 dart with a 245/60/15 tire and fit just right

OOO then maybe ill go pick up them Boyd wheels Summit has in the discount area

So the consensus is the only bolt and go pieces (drums aside) are the Moser and Dr Diff pieces, correct?

I was Ok with used axles for my low horsepower app so I sent a pair of E body 8&3/4 axles in to moser $110 + shipping both ways. EDIT I was concerned not about the used axles themselves but that I chose not to replace the tapered bearings.

The new aftermarket axles require Green bearings to be used also. The difference between a C-body/truck axle that has been cut down/resplined and an A-body SBP axle is substantial. Personally I will be using cut/resplined axles.
