i got mine in flush with some twisting and pusing but my tranny was out of the car. Plus i had oil on the oil ring. On a side note i pulled it out and replaced it i can stand how they just flap with the wind. Great looking piece.

In some cases (stamped steel pan) it sticks up 1/8" because it's stopped by the pan gasket, on cast aluminum pans it hits hard on the pan rail.
In either case just take that amount off the bottom fitting.
