Keep in mind the inbalance problem you will have with changing out one piston with a new one of a different kind. (suppose only an NOS original one might be close?)

Well he should go with cast to be close, maybe search Ebay or craigslist for a used one.
Here's a cool multi area craigslist searcher.

Well since the sealed power one are made to be OEM replacements, I think they make them close enough in weight to work with the factory balance. And we all know how poor the factory balance is, so just buy a single sealed power piston from summit and forget about it.

I'm just wondering about piston height. I dont know if the pistons for a non hp 383 are the same as they are for a HP 383.

The best way of going about this is to remove the burnt piston, measure the c.d., then find who sells one with a similiar c.d. If you get lucky enough to find one then weight match it with one of the old pistons. Without measuring and weighing the old piston first you are just guessing.

depending on the year a non HP may have a dish .

good luck finding a replacement , i have not see ANY replacement piston for a 383 that is the same height as the factory installed piston
