....I was over at www.classracer.com and the wailing and gnashing of teeth has begun, over the Challenger Drag Pak and Ford CJ performance at Indy. I mean, they are at the point of armed insurrection over there....everything from torches and pitchforks to the physical assault of the heads of Ford and Chrysler.

As much as I admire what those guys do, if racing made me that aggravated I'd find something else to spend my time at.

The funny part is that a lot of the guys whining either don't have cars at all, or aren't the fastest cars in their classes anyway. Many have been whining since the first CJ made a pass.

I believe that the AA/S CJ is on it's way to SS only anyway. The rest won't be far behind.

The DP's seem to be dropping back to the 5.7 combo and getiing down to C/D/E. Even the 6.1 can't run with the CJ's, but all of them are getting HP anyway.

Funny, none of them are crying about Blossom knocking the bottom out of it with his PT, but then, the FWD classes aren't that glamorous anyway.

It is the C-G combos that everyone is complaining about, with just cause IMO. Those cars dropping back is killing the class and index. They already took an index hit across the board earlier this year, not they have cars inhialating the index. How woudl you feel if that 340 Duster you have a ton of cash and R&D in and have been runnign for years is now obsolete?

I'd feel the same I would if someone found another killer combo for the class....that it is part of the game, and always has been. This sort of thing has been going on since the inception of Stock eliminator racing. I can show you magazine articles from 1968 that lament the demise of class racing due to factory involvement. This is nothing new. I've been doing this since 1964 and have seen it countless times.

As big a nostalgia guy that I am, I realize it can't be 1971 forever.

Al, the older cars are not obsolete yet. The "package" cars are getting HP almost every time they are anywhere near good air. The 5.7 started as a natural F combo and is now a in D. It won't be too long until it is also an A or AA combo. The 5.9 will be making a march to the top too, I'd guess it will end up in C when it's all over. It would have already gotten HP if Teuton would have passed teardown his first time out.

There was a huge hue and cry when the LS-1 was introduced too. The end of Stock racing was predicted then, but time has taken care of most everything.

One thing you have to hand to the CJ and DP guys, they are not protecting their indexes much at all.

Did you guys forget that maybe they could go back to how they started out with this latemodel stuff. Such as D/EFI etc??? Asking the older carbed combos to compete with the late model EFI stuff is just asking for trouble. I know it has been going ok for the last couple of years since the switch to putting them all together again but IMO the EFI cars need thier own classes.
