Recurving distributor?

I plan to recurve my distributor with new springs. It's a Mopar electronic unit.I understand the concept of recurving but I have never taken one apart. Is there a good tech article that explains the process? Is it an easy process to get at the springs? What needs to be removed from the distributor? Is it best to pull it out of the block to work at it?

Doing the work is not whats concerning me. It's doing the job without breaking something that concerns me, because I've never done it before.

Just work slow & make sure you remember how it goes back together. As you take it apart to get to the springs, you'll understand how the thing works. work at a clear bench & stage the parts on the bench piece by piece as it comes apart It's not that too hard.

Accessing the springs on older distributors are a royal pain. I have a small dental pick and a small flat blade screwdriver to remove the small clip that holds the advance plate to the dist shaft.
Sometimes it takes me 1 minute, sometimes a long frustrating 10.
Hopefully you have the newer style which is designed with tuners in mind and they do not have to be dissassembled to be tuned.
I like that "frustrating 10"!!! 
I can remember it taking me over an hour once and I still didn't get that dam clip to pop off.
Then...My son walks into the shop...grabs the dizzy....10 seconds later.....pop!!!

I just went through this tomfoolery with older style Mopar mechanical distributor. I did it in the car but it would probably be easier to take the distributor out. I had a harder time putting back together (this was an older Mopar mechanical electronic piece.) I'm not sure what style you have, but you may need to remove the reluctor (spiked wheel) to get at weight springs. Make sure you make note how it came of because you can re-install it out of phase. To put it back on, use a socket on bench and push it back on (keep checking and you progress)

The older unit has none adjustable mechanical (weight) advance. The newer ones have two torx screw that you can use to change the amount of weight movement. You can see this without taking the distributor apart.

It's easy once you get the hang of it.
Pop the rotor off.
Take two opposing screwdrivers and pry the 8-star reluctor off.
Take the two screws out and pull the vacuum advance canister off. It's has a arm with a nub that fits in a hole but it's easy to get out.
Pull the felt "wick" out of the top of the shaft (if it's still in there). pull the little wire clip off and pull the upside down "T" piece off. This will get full exposure the the weights and springs. Clean the weights and grease them with white lithium grease.
Intall Mr. Gasket part # 925-B (lightweight springs) on the weights and reverse the process.
You can just replace the springs without going through all of this but I like to make sure everything is clean and functioning properly!
* Make sure you know where the small pin is before you remove the reluctor and replace it accordingly.
*Add a drop of oil to the felt wick in the top of the distriubutor.
*The springs are available at Autozone or O'Reilly's

I just did this to our old dodge.It helped wake the old girl up a bit. It's very simple and the above write up is right on the money. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the small clip under the felt pad.If you can find a book called "Old Reliable" by Don Dulmage ( a Canadian as well ) it has a chapter that that shows step by step how to do this ( and also how to weld up the centrifugal advance slot ) . what would the mr gasket 925b springs do compared to the stock mp performance springs? later or earlier advance..???

I gave up after about 45 min. trying to get that stupid little clip out, I figured if it was that difficult to get it out, I would never get it back in.

Much earlier. The stock springs are one really stiff one and one lighter one. The 925-b replaces both with lighter springs.

You have to get pretty agressive with it. Needle nosed pliers and give it a good yank! Goes back in pretty easily with a small flat blade screwdriver.
Honestly, I rebuilt quite a few for friends cars over the years because they're not comfortable doin' it.
