SPWC OP master Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 4,102 Cochise County Arizona	Whats the largest tire I can run on a stock 14 inch wheel on a bone stock A body(72 Swinger) What is the best looking tire combo for this vehicle on stock 14 inch steel wheels and dogdish hubcaps.

AdamR master A Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 7,978 Bethel Ct	If you have Rallyes, they are 5.5" wide. Most steel wheels for A bodies are only 4.5" wide. I have a 225-70-14 on my stock Rallyes. 71 Dart. Fits good. I wouldnt go any bigger then that.

Most tire sellers have calipers that can measure your current wheel width for free. Then you can go from there, using information here or at www.tirerack.com . Anonymous Unregistered A	340 A bodies had 5.5 inch wide steelies, otherwise unless you have ralleys, you've almost surely got 4.5 inch wide wheels. Pretty narrow, 205's about as wide a tire as you'd want to go. Easy to tell the difference, the 5.5 hub is more deeply set into the rim, 4.5 is obviously shallower:

Still have to play games to change the dang tire so i can get it off the axle. Jack it up, set jackstands under the frame, let the axle drop, and THEN take off the wheel/tire.

M Joined: Jul 2007 Posts: 11,836 Florida	RAn 225s on 5.5 Rallyes years ago on a 67, don't remember any problems what so ever and I didn't roll the wheel well lip. Great advice about the quick refernce from the outer rim ledge. Careful, your character's showing!
