I installed the 1009 Fel Pros on my 10.62:1 440 with Edelbrock heads..I did not re torque the heads and ended up blowing a head gasket at #8 cylinder..I am replacing them with the 8519's..So I would recommend retourqing after you put some miles on your engine..

They will probably work, but I would use the 1000 series gaskets with aluminum heads. They are what Edelbrock recommends and I use them on my small block. Trouble free after 40,000 miles.

When you order the Edelbrock B/RB head gaskets, they are 8519PT's in the package.

Has anyone else had the same problem of blowing a head gasket on a big block from not retorqing when using the Fel Pro perma torques?

Not me,I have reused both of the Fel pro numbers listed on here. I did blow a pair of the 1009 due to the fire ring hanging into the combustion chamber Check all things during assembly carefully before getting after the tune

Not me...

Me, either, with the 1009s. I haven't run the standard Perma-Torque in so long that my experiences weren't on anything remotely like I'm building now.
