Is there a special tool for installing heater hose and by-pass hose nipples into intake manifolds?

Or a heavy (say 1") washer turned by a screwdriver or Crescent wrench.

Maybe I should re-phrase my question...

When engines were originally assembled, what was used to tighten the heater and by-pass hose nipples?

I'm guessing but OE installs were probably a special socket designed with keys inside it to align with the slots

A hose nipple tool is easy to make, just take a deep nut and grind/file the face to leave two blades that fit the slot in the nipple and then thread a bolt shank into it to act as a pilot.

This is what I was thinking, but was there never a special service tool (or whatever Mopar called their specific tools) that they used at dealerships back in the day? Surely they didn't use Vice-Grip(tm) pliers evry time.

Um, because they are professional mechanics.

Just your standard Small Block LA engine, but the application isn't important really.

You can use a screwdriver and hammer to remove an ignition switch bezel, but we all know there's a correct tool designed for removeing the bezel. I just want to know if there is such a tool for installing and removing heater hose nipples. Maybe it doesn't exist, I dunno...that's why I'm asking.

Yup all the Chrysler mechanics back then had every tool in the manuals and never skipped a step or used a homemade tool.

Miller Special Tools manufactures Chrysler Corporation service tools.
I have quite a few of their catalogs going back to the mid 70's.
Never have seen anything in any of the catalogs for a "special tool" used on the hose fitting nipples.

are you unable to finish assembling your engine without the tool or is this for your doctorite in auto technology ???

... it was a joke son ...

i just looked thru my 69 shop manual , there is not torque spec , no tool listed and not even a procedure to do what you are asking about .

maybe you should have asked this question in the over restored section ???

I make hose nipple install tools for customers from time to time from tough 316 stainless steel. They include all 3 hose sizes including the small block bypass hose. This is the best way to install them for sure.
