Yes it will fit but have to use the 72 mounts and a 72 valance also.

From what I've seen, yes. Never done it myself but have seen move than a couple 71's with 72 bumper/valance on them. The area on the tail panel where it all bolts on is the same between 71 and 72.

the biggest difference between the 2 bumpers is the bottom of the bumper.
on 71 the bottom of the bumper is straight across. on 72 bumpers the center of the bumper has a indention in the middle.
i have seen a 71 valance on a 72 car, but the center of the bumper has a 1 1/2" gap in the middle of the bumper. i think there were pics on this site showing the difference. maybe try a search on 71 or 72 road rummer rear bumper. or maybe rear bumper differences for key words.

i tried a search myself and got nothing.
if i remember correctly you can bolt a 71 valance on a 72 car with a 72 bumper. there will be a big hole in the middle where the 72 bumper curves up.
maybe compare pics form that auction site on 71 and 72 rear valances and you can see the difference.
perception is 90% of reality

He's right. You need a '72 valence to make it look "normal"....IMO I can see getting rid of the '71 grille for a '72 or the '71 header emblem for a '72 emblem BUT not the bumper and taillights...The '71 bumper and taillights look great...The '72 valence is better looking too but has to be used with a '72 Bumper.. That's my  but the end result it's your car do with it want you want...
