My buddy can get a 413/auto(61k miles) from a dodge motor home FREE,guy is scrapping it. But he would have to go and haul it from bakersfield to nor-cal.Is it worth it or not( cost of gas )? D.

413 mh engine is quite different than a car one. BIG heads and waterpump housing. Perhaps an 8 bolt flywheel.

How far is this drive you are talking about?

Personally, if you can get it for less than $100 of gas and lunch money it's worth it. Even if it's just for odds and ends.

Great motor for a hauler!

my old 72 Winnie had the 413 ind engine. it was a 6 bolt crank, but as stated above it has huge heads, funky water pump assy and a monster intake. it was a torque monster. If your buddy goes for it the only useable parts for a car app would be the block, crank(same as 440)and rods. and maybe pistons if he wants a low comp engine.... I can see a 871 blower bolted on top of one...

I am truckless..

But not all motorhome 413s had the weird heads, water pumps and manifolds. Look at it this way: At 750 lb it is worth $82.50 as scrap. The transmission has heavy-duty guts although the tailshaft and housing will have to be changed to one from a car.

I say go get it. A man can never have too much cast iron aging in the back yard!

I nought a 413 motorhome engine from a motorhome a while back. It is supposed to have around 33,000 miles on itand I needed a runnung bigblock so I could move the car around under its own power. When I picked it up I was supprised at what I got. It has unique cylinder heads, exaust manifolds, distributor, oil pump drive, camshaft, and a gear drive for the cam. the dampner is also different. It also has low compression pistions, on the positive side it has a steel crank with a 6 bolt flange. as soon as I am done with the car I intend on using this for a 426, but until then I have a large stack of iron left over from the motorhome specific parts. If you have the room to store it why not? they sure are not making them anymore.

These are a low-rpm motor that as long as you keep coolant and decent oil in it ... it will never break. I would like to try my hand at making that motor a better performer .... using those heads.

Anyone with parts laying around that you want to get rid of .. let me know.
