Exactly how do you determine what will work for a particular combo? Heat range and the likes?

I know about reading plugs, but my engine is on the stand, never fired yet. But very soon. I need plugs, but don't know what to start with.

if the eng is ~9 to 9.5-1 cr I would suggest a stock heat range plug listed for your eng or possibly 1 step colder & there was a recent thread on which brands people have had good & bad luck with.

So would one heat range colder PER one point of compression increase be a good rule of thumb?

Mine is a 493, with Edelbrock aluminum heads and 11.2-1 compression.

thanks
