Well, for starters, it does have a conventional coil. Is there spark there? Also, running the codes is pretty easy... Have the cap/rotor been checked?

timing belt.does the dist turn?? bad cap /rotor wires??
dist has a hall effect sensor.can jump two terminals and create a spark.
There is a wire in the harness near the asd relay.blue or a green wire that corrodes and breaks inside the main taped up harness.1 wire branchs off into like 4 or 5 wires.breaks there.check for +Power at the coil.No key on power/asd relay power.open up the harness along the driver side inner fender area.

Check codes (key on-off-on-off-on rapidly WITHOUT trying to start it). Count flashes of the check engine light. There will be a longer pause between digits and all codes are two-digit. You will probably see a "12" first and a "55" at the end. "12" is loss of battery within a certain number of starts (50 or something) and "55" is end of codes. Lots of palces on the net to find the codes, but the best I've found is http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/.

wiggle the wiring to the pick-up plate while having someone crank it.
