When did the 360 engine start using a roller cam, and what was the window until until the "Magnum" re-design. I'm looking for a "LA" series motor that has the roller cam.

Also, is there any way to tell if the engine has the roller cam without tearing it apert in the salvage yard?

89-91 FI 360's

Pull the distributor and look down the hole. No major teardown necessary.

Some other 360's that weren't rollers may have bosses for holding down the spider.

1989-1992 LA 360s were rollers. Magnum 360s started in 1993 - one year later than the 318s.

Here is a nice site with info: Sorting Out: Chrysler’s 238, 318, 360 Engines

look down the dist hole at the end of the cam and lobe

want to see a roller lifter on the cam lobe

want to look at the vally were there will be a thin metal hold down that hold the dog bones on the lifters
an 88 block may have the taller lifter bores and hold down bosses and have a flat tappet cam,so look at them if ya get a chance

if ya get a roller cam ya can reuse the roller lifters, take them apart and clean them

whatch roller cams and the springs...the cams fine but most use double springs...get a single with a damper that drop on with no machine work

I have an extra set of doubles springs now

As said 89 - 91 360's. I was told if it has TBI its a roller. Mine was. It should also have some 308 heads as a bonus. Good Luck.

Link from reggie says a 92 has old style inside, but pad and ears on outside, and that 92-97 uses same block, but Magnum started 93, so did head bolt pattern change 93-97, even though block # is the same as 92?
Is a 92 a 93-97 block but still uses LA head bolt pattern, then later years just drill head different, or is a 92 not useable with LA heads?

LA and Mag heads are bolt-on interchangeable as far as the block to head. Intakes, rocker oiling, etc are different but no difference in the head bolting to the block. There are some problems trying to get a later block to get oil up to the LA rockers, I think that's what you saw in the link. The real question is why one would want to put an LA head on a Mag block unless they were W2s or something like that.
