Serious question. I have a friend who seriously would like to buy a brand-new police spec Dodge Charger. He'd like to order one himself. Now, I know it's possible somehow- I saw them in civilian hands before I saw police forces using them. Question is, how? Do you need to find someone with an in at the Dodge dealer and sneak it in with a fleet order? Do you need to talk to someone directly at Chrysler? What do you do, and how do you go about getting the best price on it?
Anyone have any ideas?

What in the world does the factory install on a cop car that would be a hazard in the hands of the public? They install ejector seats, smoke generators, rocket launchers, etc?
Haven't you ever seen a James Bond movie?

Hey Migs! Yeah, I'm wondering if there's some bizarre protocol to order them, or what goes on.

Cities (in my realm of experience) request bids for fleet cars from various dealerships, and then select the lowest bidder... just like in everything else they do. I would suggest going down to your local city fleet service department and asking to speak with the fleet manager. Find out when they'll be ordering another round of vehicles, and from which dealership. Hopefully the guy (or girl) will volunteer that info, but you COULD get the info through a freedom of information act request. That way just won't win you any favors, and there may be a slight fee for the paperwork. In any event, find out who the dealership is, and then go ask for THEIR fleet sales manager. Give them your spiel, and see what you'll be able to work a deal on. You SHOULD be able to get one for city cost, and you SHOULD have that info in hand. They won't care if they're ordering 50 or 51 cars, as they're making money on each one. Mind you, that doesn't mean you're getting the best deal. Cities get screwed all the time, depending on how low the low bidder is. Oh, and have financing in hand when you go talk the talk.
