I'm wanting to install a cd player where the existing AM radio is in my 72 dart and was wondering how you guys actually mounted the new cd player? Did you use some sort of universal installation kit or what?

I installed a great deck in my 70 swinger. Here's the deal. It did not fit the factory opening, period. My dash was not in any way mint so I trimmed
the opening up to fit the deck. Looks good and still have some of the chrome around the deck. I also had to make custom brackets to hold it in place. Was more or less a custom fab job. I think that is about the only way to make her go.

yeah, i've already trimmed the dash so the cd player actually fits, but it doesn't really stay in place if you know what I mean. I figured i'd have to do something custom but just seeing if anybody figured out an easy solution.

I bought some flat bar stock at the hardware store
and made a bracket bar for each side that hooks to the lower dash. No problems so far. It only took a half hour or so for the whole mess.

Pick up a Scosche stereo installation kit like so: http://www.scosche.com/products/productID/17

You can get 'em at Wal-Mart or a million other places. It'll place the aftermarket radio in the right position and it takes five minutes to install. Connect your wires, put the radio in, and you're done.

I used one to put an aftermarket Pioneer CD player in my '77 Aspen and it was a breeze.
