Hello to all and thanks to those whom can help. I recently bought a 1970 Dart Swinger. I was lucky enough to find the original build sheet still in tact. Under line 7 [heavy duty Fleet] under the line police engine I have a code 1 The decoder I have states this was indeed a police engine. It has a 318 2bbl. I would think this would be a bigger and a 4bbl engine. It also lists codes for heavy duty alt, Radio support pkg, battery, spotlight, roof light reinf. codes. Most of the codes dont jive with my decoder. I would think it would be left blank if it were not optioned. It also has a 8 3/4 open diff under it. What do I have here? Is this car special in some way? The broadcast sheet states it was for export. What does this mean. Here are the code numbers if someone can help.
police engine-1
alter-8
radio support pkg-3
battery-0
spotlight lft-1
spotlight right-4
roof light reinf-3

Silly question but did you check the VIN on the sheet? There were a lot of wrong sheets found in cars.

Very true, better check the VIN to make sure it is for your car.....

Another possibility is that it has 1970 codes printed on a leftover 1969 broadcast sheet - also fairly common.

Can you scan it and post the image?

I have a scanner but it is part of my copier. It has to be fed through machine and I would not trust that the build sheet would not get damaged. It is very brittle but in tact. Do you need another number off of it? How would I find out if this is a left over 69 broadcast sheet? Why would it have codes entered? I thought these sheets were the gospel on the car it represents. Thanks Tod

Barry, have you broken out the Victrola yet?

Amazing how an unchallenged lie can become the absolute truth.

What is the VON? (top line)
Was it built at Windsor plant? (R in the VIN)
What are the Y codes? (Upper right hand corner)
What is the engine assembly number (Line 4; left hand side)
Any codes in the X section (Bottom row)

A picture or scan would help with your questions.

The vehicle order number is 716295564
It does have an 'R' for windsor plant
The y- codes are Y05, Y14
The engine code is 043
No X-codes

There is nothing in the VON or Y codes that support that. Do you mean it is hand written on the sheet? The Y05 code means it was built for sale in the US

Quote:

The vehicle order number is 716295564 Looks like a typical Dart VON. Nothing that indicates a cop car or export there.
It does have an 'R' for windsor plant This is probably the answer
The y- codes are Y05, Y14 built for US sale; ordered car
The engine code is 043 appears to be the standard code for a 318-2bbl A body install. Nothing special here.

No X-codes so no codes used for export cars either

Windsor plant used F series codes that do not match with published codes typical of cars built at US plants. This is a common source of confusion when decoding BS or tags. I don't know that I've ever seen a list of what Windsor plant F codes actually mean or why they used different codes than US plants.

Sorry...based on what has been shared, all I'm seeing is a standard 318-2bbl A body built at Windsor with plant unique coding.

You asked the gurus.
They said "nothing special."
You don't believe them.
Send more information.
They probably will say the same stuff.
Then what do you do? Look around for someone else to tell you what you want to hear?

At what point will reality set in?

Just checking,
R.

Not always, look here for some mistakes;

I have to admit, the second to the last entry on page four is absolutely my favorite broadcast sheet error by far. So far......

I have a 1970 dart build sheet from Windsor...I bought, drove and parted the car out back in 90/91...it was a tad special; it was a city, fleet car...said "special equipment order" right on the b-cast sheet...wierd car; 4-door,318,727, 4 core radiator with shroud,8 3/4 with 3.23s,sway bar, radio delete, coded for big alt and battery, right side mirror...but otherwise a rubber mat stripper...

I still have the fender tag and b-cast sheet. if you need more info, let me know!

I love to see stuff like that. Finding accurate information on fleet ordered cars is not easy.

I don't have my scanner online, but here is the tag:
Ew1 F11 Y05 END
Ew1 L2X9 TX9 304 Jo1895
E44 D31 LL41 GoR 228485

I have the b-cast sheet handy...ask me any questions. it had a sticker in the door jam that said "city of Tukwila" (washington)
