Hi,
Does anybody know if the valves are a different size on the 360 magnum head compared to the 318 magnum head??? I know the regular syle heads are different and i know a lot about the old 318 and 360s but dont know about the 90's 318s and 360s. thanks

very common problem from what people post. The ex is listed as 1.625" & I read that the seat is slightly smaller than that on them so I bought a single 1.6" chebby valve & my head man said perfect fit(reamed the guides to 11/32").

However the aftermarket heads like EQs, Pro-Topline and mppar aluminum mags have 1.625 seats.

yeah mine were brand new stockers & if I had to do it over again(& I probably will) I would have used .100" longer chebby valves(they're cheap enough).

Some are visable, some aren't. Always magnaflux when looking for cracks.

Clean head thoroughly. Soak the surface between the valves with penetrating oil. Wipe off the surface. Sometimes you can see a little bleedout from the crack after you have cleaned the surface.

Of course a real dye-penetrant kit would be better, and a Magnaflux using the magnetic powder would be even better.

Now here's a problem that has been discussed from time to time: the engine ran with the crack before the engine was taken apart, what makes us think that it won't run now? Also, some of the cracks are shallow enough that cutting the head for hardened seats cuts out the crack. But you can't tell from the outside how deep the crack is, and you never know what a crack is going to do, except you can be sure that it won't join itself back together!
I'm sorry, this is not a good answer. But maybe it's the best answer there is at the time.

R.

& I was wondering also about having a head pressure checked which my machine shop is equipped to do.I would NOT like to sink a bunch of time/money into a set & find out later that's there's a problem. Might be overkill but peace of mind to me is priceless.
