I'm talking my buddy into swapping in a spare '66-'70 B body 8 3/4 that I've got under his '79 Firebird. The stock rear is 55.25" flange to flange, and 45 3/8" perch to perch. Anyone see a reason the 44" perch to perch B housing wouldn't work with off set shackles on the rear? That corporate 10 bolt junk needs to go.
As a side note. I told him to use elephant ears to swap a 440 in there. Anyone know of headers that would be a fit?

What are you gonna do for rims? Bolt patterns are different.

As for offset shackles, why not.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Check the pinion offset. I'm not sure if GM had the pinion offset or not.

any possibility that you could just persuade him to purchase a nice running hot Mopar? That would convert him quicker than anything. I bought my first Mopar in '75 a '68 GTX convertible 440 sp 4.10 dana & was hooked instantly, forgot about the chebrolet's & never looked back.

Guy's a douche, but a friend. Unfortunately, he's convinced that the shock mounting would be an issue, and he's keeping the 10 bolt.

other than the different bolt pattern wheels i don't know why it can't be made to work. they put 8.8 ford rears in mopars for the rear disk brakes, dana 60 and ford 9" under everything. it could be a cheap gear change rear over buying a custom made ford 9".
