Is it correct to paint the by-pass hose in place on an late '70's LA 360 engine?

I've seen original by-pass hoses painted engine color, but since very few still have the original corbin clamps in place, I'm not sure if the clamps should be painted, too.

My guess is the hose and clamps were painted in place. I doubt the hose was installed sans clamps, painted, then the hose was removed, the clamps slipped over the hose ends, and the hose and clamps installed.

What about the negative battery cable? I've heard and seen it both ways.
