I have an old cable shifted cast iron trans, supposed to have had recent rebuild when I purchased it years ago. Any one up on these things enough to help me identify? I don't know if three speed or two speed. Does not have bellhousing, were all cast autos built that way. Jerry

The shift lever will only have 4 indents on a 2speed, RNDL. The bells on all cast iron 727s are bolt on as far as I know. http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Transmission/index.htm

The powerflite main case is 3-4 inches shorter than the torqueflite case. Also, at least on my 56, the powerflite shift cable goes directly into the tranny casting, not into the bolt-on attachment shown in pic "2" above.
