I was out playing with my roadrunner last night and went from a dead stop on a country road up through the gears pretty hard, car ran awesome sounded great. I got to the highway, car acted fine, ran down the hiway about a mile with no problems, pulled into the parking lot at work to drop a buddy off and drove around the building back to the hiway and while I was sitting there waiting on traffic the oil pressure light kicked on, so I back up out of the way and the car went to chattering in the valvetrain so I shut it off. What could have happened here?? The car ran great, then idling to a stop I lose oil pressure.

oil pump drive gear? oil pump? spun bearing? I never heard rods it was all valvetrain.

btw its a pretty fresh motor if that helps.

Happened to me way back when. Same senario....sitting and lost oil pressure. It was the oil pump....under warrenty...towed to dealer and back to me in 3 hours. Many things this could be but this did happen to me.

Oil pump drive shaft. (intermediate shaft) Popped a lifter out of the bore. If this is what happened you will still have had oiling to the rods and mains but not to to the top.

Or bent push rod let a lifter pop out of the bore?

did u find anything in the pump?

what would lock it up if it did not suck trash?

was it scared up or galled on the rotores/housing?

was u low on oil after it stoped pumping?

glad it was a easy fix..but just wondering what would cause this

every one that I did I found something in the pump to lock it up..small and big block

looks like the clover leaf shaped rotor had too much play compared to my new one, because one side was wedged in where it didn't mesh properly.

I only found one large metal shaving in the pump itself, looks like its from the rotor or housing.

oil level was a little past the full line as usual, its a fresh motor no trash, I changed the oil again and everything looks great.
