the good news is you dont do much work under the dash, you have to take it out!

really you just need to rotate the dash down, and remove the heater box assembly and then you work on the box on the bench.

Its not as bad as it sounds.

I was looking on Alldata and they show removing the insterment cluster, steering column, etc. If I drop the column down, will the dash roll back enough to get the box out?

Thanks
Dan.

Actually if you can get the column completely out of the car, the job goes much easier. If you drop the column just down, it can really only go as low as the driver's seat. Which, gets in the way of rolling the dash over.

Trucks are the same way, its best to get the column out of there or if easy enough, remove the seat so the column can drop down more. Its only a few seconds with an air ratchet.

You also dont have to disconnect most of the stuff All Data or Shop Key says, unless you want to remove the whole dash from the car, but its not necessary.

Like I said, reading the procedure makes it sound like not a fun job, but in reality its not bad. I kinda think the "dirty" work under the hood is the bad part, the rest is nice and clean.

After youre done, you'll see how easy it really was.

Ok, so when you say roll the dash back, can it be left on a couple of bolts. I think I follow what you are saying, just want to verify so I don't go doing a bunch of work I dont have to. If I pull the column out, console, and both front seats, can I roll the dash back without removing it and pull the HVAC box up out from behind it???. Are there bolts along the front edge at the windshield, and if so do you get them from the top or from underneath?.

Sorry to sound like a dumb A$$ on this. Normally I would just go at it. Right now I really don't have the time to be doing this and would like to do it in a couple of evenings or a Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for you time !

Dan

I did one last year on the wife,s car. This job is one complete pain in the a**. Remove the steering column and start the disconnects to remove the dash from the car.Once the dash is out of the way, the heater box is pretty straight forward. Dont forget to reinstall the dash inner sound deadener pad. It makes a huge difference in interior noiselevels, ask me how i know.

yes, there are screws at the base of the windshield. and yup, you can roll the dash on the lower 2 bolts that go into the pillars, (Im pretty sure youre envisioning the procedure correctly)

but I think its easier to take it (the dash) off those bolts and force it towards the seats, just roll it back as your primary goal, that way you can see what you really have to disconnect, and dont.

Shop Key tells you to do many steps I dont think are neccessary, but I dont think they tell you to remove the column, just to drop it. Id suggest getting it right out of the car, it speeds up the job.

again, you'll see when youre done really how simple it is. (as long as you dont get frustrated)

also, cap off the heater core pipes with some rubber plugs or whatever, it helps prevent spilling some anti freeze inside the car when you remove the box.

good luck to you.

edit: ya, you pull the box out from behind the dash, but it should be off the "roll over" bolts at that time, just sorta laying on the seats, with alot of stuff still attached to it.
