When is the last time you seen one of these still attached to a sending unit? It's on a super low mile 6pk Cuda in my shop.

Hi Mike,
Nice talking to you a couple of days ago! The tag on the sending unit is one that I have been trying to figure out for the past 2 years. We offer these in our product line but they are not yet on our website. (The Challenger project has brought about many new products that we will be offering later this Summer.) There seems to be part numbers for both the 3/8" and the 5/16" gas sending unit on the B & E Body vehicles. I think a California emissions car might have a different part number. I have seen the tag also placed on the larger line that exits the sending unit. There appears to be two different fonts of print. One with the Federal Safety wording and the other without. I have posted a couple of pictures showing an original and how they probably looked when they were new. What plant was your vehicle/sample manufactured at? Thanks.

Very neat. It sure would be interesting to see a list of assembly line part #'s as opposed to replacement parts book part #'s to see if there is some correlation, or system to it.

The car was built in the Hamtramck plant and it is a December car.

Wait a minute Dave, I just noticed that your tag is completely wrong compared to the only one I can remember.

Your part number is incorrect and it's obvious the color of your paper isn't right because it should be a yellowish brown like the original.

Don't forget, I'm looking at the only one I've ever seen and if it's not exactly like mine than it has to be wrong.

I wonder if the sending units were installed in assembly line tanks when they arrived at the plant. That would make sense for a bunch of different parts #s Cuda or Challenger 5/16 or 3/8 CA or non-CA.

A U.S. manufacture and a Canadian manufacture of the sending units.

Amazing how an unchallenged lie can become the absolute truth.

WoW! Thanks for the reality check Mike. For the past few days I had almost forgotten the usual type of responses I get when I post on a particular subject. Nice to be brought back into the fold. I guess I deserved that huh?! I will do my best to fix everything....I promise.

These assemblies are not listed anywhere in the parts books. You can find the break down on the individual components but not the complete sending unit and tank.

That's right pal, get busy! Remember, I have one and if it's not exactly like mine it has to be wrong.

Yes sir I will. Sorry to have bothered you. Can we still be friends or should I find another manufacturing buddy?

(I typed this as we were talking on the phone Mike. Please stop laughing!)

That is what I mean, sort of like how casting #'s on manifolds can be 1 number off of the part # (or the other way around). There should have been some type of system, I guess I just am curious what it may have been, and how it might relate to later parts book information. Handy to know if you have piles of parts with assy line not parts book #'s on them. A good example would be SIA parts like mirror assemblies, it would be nice to be able to id it by the base casting #.

Also known as a SO number, which there are a mixture of throughout the parts book.

The number in the book for the K Frames is a SO number not the part number, some are one digit off, others are not even close.

Hi Alan,
I believe they are the ones that are #3404547. We do have that number.

Just so I've got this straight...

That part # is for the assembled tank & sending unit which would also include the filter sock on the sending unit in the tank.

Does it also include the tank pad and/or the ground strap, and/or the small fuel hose with/without clamps?

I'm thinking there would be 8 possible combinations...

challenger 5/16
challenger 5/16 california
challenger 3/8
challenger 3/8 california

barracuda 5/16
barracuda 5/16 california
barracuda 3/8
barracuda 3/8 california

Does that sound right?

So which ones do we have #'s for, and which ones are missing?

Tav, there could be different #'s for Canada/Export as well.

I can believe that, but It makes me wonder what the difference would be between an export gas tank/sending unit and a domestic gas tank/sending unit. Anyone aware of any of these items that are specific to export cars?

Obviously, speedometers are different KPH vs. MPH, but what would change on a gas tank?

I'm not trying to argumentive, just trying to learn something here.

I understand that the label could be different depending on manufacturer, but the part # on the label should be the same right?

Me too...

So the SO #'s could make sense for E body, you have in these pix 3404547-550, logical, but then where would the 974 come from?? A/B/C body?

You are correct! That is a B Body assembly tag.

Here's another. The number 7 has the number 9 marked over it with black marker!
