I use a brass screen type filter to get any of the larger items then then the finer filter after the pump, pumps dont like to suck so dont add any restriction

I run a system 1 with a 30 micron between the tank and pump with no problems.
Plenty of flow

From RobbMc (Moparts member and designer of the Mallory Gerotor pumps and regulators and now his own products. http://www.robbmcperformance.com/products.html ) Quote:
100 Micron Filters Designed for use as prefilters for mechanical pumps and rotary vane style electric pumps.
40 Micron Filters Designed for use as prefilters for gerotor style electric fuel pumps. Also used to filter fuel before it enters the carb.
10 Micron Filters Designed to filter the fuel after the pump, before it enters fuel injectors. Not intended for use in carbureted systems. DO NOT USE AS A PUMP PREFILTER.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.
