my 70 Challenger RT 440 has manual steering on it now. I am considering sending an oringinal power steering gear to firm feel for rebuild and then installing power steering on my Challenger. Have any of you had a gear rebuilt by Firm Feel, and how did you like it?

Based on feedback from here, I called them to order a stage 3 box. I foolishly let them convince me that a stage 2 would give me the road feel like a friends 06 GTO. NOT. I can't tell the difference between it and stock, still one finger grandma friendly steering. If I used them again, it would be for the stage 3 ONLY! My .02

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Almost everyone says go with the Stage 3 but I'm sure there are a few people out there who prefer lighter steering.

Oh and anytime there is a FFI thread there is one guy who shows and complains about getting a box years ago that leaked. It happened a long time ago and he is still mad about it so I'm sure he'll find this thread and tell us the story again.

Stage 3 is only way to go. it is not hard to steer even with wide front tires. Firm Feel seems to want to talk you into a stage 2 for some reason. Maybe they are easier for them? Only complaint I have is that it leaked and I had to sent it back.

No, that's not it. I recently contacted them and expressed my discontent with my Stage 2 box and they gladly took it back years after the purchase and swapped it to a stage 3 for a small fee (the box was out of the car for an unrelated reason anyway).

I talked to Dick at length about this issue and I believe he was being very sincere when he told me they have absolutely no vested interest in a Stage 2 over a Stage 3 - same amount of work, same cost, they build to order so there are no stocked shelves of Stage 2 boxes. He said he tends to be conservative because people are all over the place regarding what they think is "firm". Stage 3 is as firm as they offer. I can sympathize.

Those guys are stand up dudes.

BTW, they now offer a machining service to ensure that certain boxes with certain design flaws will not leak. I can't remember how to relay the specifics to you since it didn't apply to my box, but the cost is $45 and it has to be worthwhile.

I've just received my stage III . I haven,t installed it yet however keep in mind it took mine 2 months. They were very good in keeping me abreast of the situation.

kind of a funny story...I was very interested in upgrading to a stage 2 firm feel box as I thought my steering was pretty sloppy...

Turns out I already had a stage 2 firm feel box installed my dad had put it in

I searched into answers on doing it yourself and was left with the feeling that I might not have good or proper results at the attempt. So opted for upgraded perfomance along with no sloppyness. My barracuda became very scary at 65mph.After a 6 year resto that was the only thing not replaced and I had plenty of slop.

A few years ago I bought a rebiuld kit. Looked at the service manual, looked at the kit. Decided my life wasn't worth putting in jeopardy for it. Manual steering - no problem. Power steering - problem.

I went with the stage II and it is great, but my next one will be a stage III.

I've read here on Moparts that Firm Feel can go even more firm than stage III if you call and request it.
