OK started and power braked car with new Schumaker mounts... WOW hardly any engine movement at all.. Still cannot believe the "made in India" mounts I purchased at NAPA, with 1700 miles on them, allowed so much movement...

The negative.... ALOT more vibration is going through my car from the engine... Hopefully some of this will dissipate after I drive it a while.

Hope this helps some of you....

The "Korea is better than India at NAPA" motor mount stories is also true with the later spool type motor mounts. I bought a pair at NAPA and one was from Korea and the other from India. The one from India had the bolt hole filled with rubber. The local NAPA store got me another Korea mount. NAPA is good to work with for special request.

I was using a solid mount on the drivers side and a regular NAPA replacement mount on the pass. side (replaced twice in 4 months). After just a couple of use's the engine sag's so much on the pass. side the inner tie rod end's hit the header putting deep enough grooves that they need to be welded. I will be switching to Schumacher's.

Try putting a regular mount , not india sourced if you can find one , on the pass side .

I tried that before. Next I ripped the passenger side one downwards.

He is asking a question he does not know the answer to , there is no diesel mount that is the same as the biscuit car mount .

Now this is interesting.....

Drove my car over the weekend and I think my carb is acting up again. I have taken off the stock carb ( in the past) and blown out the passages and cleaned out the bowls and it ran great for a while.. I do think the schumacher mounts tend to transfer more of the engine vibrations than the soft "india" mounts... Hoping they might "loosen" up after some driving....

Friend with a roadrunner finally gave up on his stock carb and installed a new Edelbrock.. Said its never run so good and his gas mileage increased..

I would not bank on the Schumacher poly mounts loosening up I'm afraid. As I mentioned in my earlier post, your experience is consistent with other poly mount buyers.

In theory the mitymounts (I got mine from 440source IIRC but not installed) should offer best of both worlds since they are rubber but mechanically lock. In theory!

Man, I've been down this road. At the end of the racing season last year, I started having problems skipping right over 2nd gear with the slapstick shifter. Thought the shifter was shot. Replaced it with two differnt shifters... Console in-out-in-out. Same problem. Finally noticed my oil pan was resting on the steering linkage. What the? Turns out the mounts were shot. Right sided really sagged down and left side sagged down and broken. I have a torque strap, so it wasn't really noticeable.

I wanted to race the following weekend so I just got a cheap set from the local parts store. Went to the track twice and the new mounts were shot. Sagging again and back to shifting problems. I guess the shifter linkage was getting out of alignment somehow and/or rubbing on the header at the collector.

So I got the Polylock mounts from Schumacher. When I called, they were on back-order and I had to wait a little over a week before they shipped, but initially they said it could have been almost a month delay.

The Polylock mounts do not sag at all and created clearance problems with my Hooker Supercomp headers and the torsionbar on the left side. Thankfully the headers are two piece and I just removed the rear tube and clearanced it for the torsionbar.

I was surprised at all the vibration the polylocks DO put into the car. My engine is balanced, but isn't exactly stock either. I have nine passes and not sure how many street miles on the poly mounts with no signs of trouble.

Save your money. The Korean mounts offered by NAPA are junk as well. My dad picked up a transmission mount from NAPA and gave it to me to install a couple of weeks ago. I returned it due to poor quality. The box was marked "Made in Korea". Thin gauge metal, poorly formed mounting flanges, and mounting slots that were positioned too close to the bend to allow insertion of the bolts. Schumacher mounts, although excellent quality, are an overkill for a stock application. Does Mopar (or anyone else) sell OEM rubber mounts? I do know that some of the Mopar ones are, in fact, reboxed Anchor (Korean).

I think this is the million dollar question.. Does anybody make a mount that is a good quality rubber or poly?? Something inbetween the india/Korean and the Schumacher??

These problems are exactly why I have junk mounts and a torque strap in my car. I don't want vibrations or to have new mounts fail as soon as they are used.

There has to be a market for a good quality mount that is for stock type apps. The Sch. mounts are obviously a nice part if your app. calls for them. Many of us just aren't using our cars as race cars.

I just spent 4 hours replacing the ones in my 67 cuda because the drivers side one was broken...

HAD A HELL OF A TIME getting the lower bolt out as it would just spin the mount (they are factory style locknuts) - I used locktite and regular nuts when I put them back in...

If it was not for this it would not have been a big deal...

I used the polylock ones; starting the car up and taking it to work tomorrow... - I also replaced the trans mount.

The best option for a-body owners is to use the spool mounts...

The Korean mounts seem to be decent quality, which doesn't surprise me. One of the best low cost tires on the market are also made in Korea (Kumho). You can tell that the "rubber" is low quality just by looking at a new Indian mount.

That may be, but after 1000 miles the Korea ones on my '67 were broken on the drivers side - hate to see what the indian ones would look like.

It is a 4 speed though with a 300 HP 360 crate motor - I did get on it a few times

That Schumacher style Torque Strap goes a long way toward making motor mounts last- and it is easy to fabricate yourself. If you look at the pictures of their mount, the mounting bracket on the bottom doesn't have to have that dogleg in it (or might, depending on some sway bar applications), and it doesn't have to have the joint at the top. Mine that I built several years ago for about $15 bolts right to an existing hole on the head using an old fender brace mated to 5/8 all-thread on the bottom, uses strut rod rubber bushings off the parts store shelf, and a flat 1/4" plate on the bottom across the k-member. You can barely tell it's there and it's like having 2 motor mounts on the drivers side...

I raced for years and just put a solid mount on the driver's side and a rubber one on the passenger side with rubber trans mount. No vibrations and nothing moves...It's actually that simple, lasts for years...

I cut out all the rubber on my driver's side mount and welded a piece of rectangular tubing in to take the place of the rubber. My brother did the same thing to his 455 buick motor mount as well.
