Can't believe my motor mounts have broken already.. Stock 440 in my 67 with 1500 miles on the engine and mounts.. One very small burnout and mostly just some crusing done with these..

Bought the mounts from NAPA and when I saw made in India I was worried, but I thought they would last a while...

Any update on some recommendations and sources here for some new good ones???

I went through this on my old slant 6. The original rubber mounts lasted 35 years and the replacements lasted a year!

I ended up going with poly drivers side and stock passenger mounts. The crap mount lasted way better in compression than being pulled apart by engine torque.

On my 408 I used Schumacher mounts. Way more money but the quality is there.

Good luck

You might have to step up to the interlocking poly mounts offered by Schumacher. NOT cheap, but install it ONCE and be done with it.

Yeah, but the poly are reputedly harsh? How about the mitymounts (rubber with steel interlock)

The India made mounts are JUNK. It doesn't matter what name is on the box. You can tell by the look and feel of the rubber (well, I'm not even sure it's really rubber, might be elephant fat for all I know). I did buy a pair of mounts from Kragen (O'Reilly) a few weeks ago for the Ramcharger. They were made in Korea, which appear to better made and with better material. They also have a lifetime warranty.

I also recently made a transmision mount for my wife's 95 LeBaron. The only mounts available were a junk mount from the local transmission parts house for about $35 or the dealer for about $200. A poly sway bar bushing and some square tubing, DONE. I do feel some extra vibration at idle from time to time, but the acceleration shake is gone.

Do the cars use the same rubber mount as trucks? If so get Diesel mounts

Any dealers for Shumacher mounts or the polys?? I like the Shumachers but not sure I need all that.. I do like the idea of doing this only once ( again)

Any other suggestions out there??

Nope, completely different and even different than earlier K-car derivatives.

Schumacher sells directly and through Mancini and others. I have the older version Schumacher mount - rubber with through bolt - on a 496B and it has been trouble free. I would buy the interlocking type if I were in the market now. Usually only one is required (drivers) with a good quality standard mount on the other. This helps limit vibration. If you call schumacher they'll get you fixed up.

The other fix is a chain or a strap from the block to the frame to control engine twist. I don't run one but if you ask you'll get lots of pics of different setups.

Well funny thing is the drivers side india motor mount is out and it is OK????

Any chance these cheap ones can really move around?? The drivers side was coming up what looked like 2-3 inches when I power braked the car.... Should I be looking for something else wrong??

Gonna install the Schumachers and see how it does.....

Is it possible that they soften to a gooey "chewing gum" consistency when they get warm from engine heat?

Add a chain and be done with it.

No , they soften because of the INFERIOR rubber they are made of .

This and you can get a nice torque strap from Schemaker as well if you want.

I have the Schumachers on my 340, and they're great. I have no more worries about breaking a mount and losing my fan shroud.

Yup, a chain or a sliding mount like the carb kickdown linkage, Gives play at idle but then halts any movement past a point. That is what is needed. My 65 A mounts are 3 inches tall of rubber..I will be using a "motor torsion limiting device". Interlocking mounts are acceptable.

Thanks for the replies..

I am aware of torque straps etc..

What I am saying is I have seen busted motor mounts before and based on the amount of lift from the drivers side of the motor while lightly powerbraking my car, it sure looked like one to me and I was very surprised to see both of my " made in india" mounts were not broken...

I will update this post after I start it with the new Schumacher mounts in and let everyone know what the difference is.....
