Has anybody here modified their original tank (pre-75 cars) to mount an EFI pump internally? Anybody got tips or pics?

I need to do the same and was looking at Tanks Inc. setup. You can see it here: Tanks Inc. EFI Fuel Pump I found this guy that installed one: Camaro EFI

Thanks guys.
I'm really having a hard time deciding whether to go in tank or rail mounted. Servicing would be easier on an external setup but internal would be quieter.

I went through the same issue trying to decide what to use on my challenger. I ended up using the competition engineering sump welded to the stock tank with a external pump. It has worked pretty well, but you do hear it when you turn the key on. After the car has fired though on mine you can't hear it over the exhaust. Mounting to the rail with good rubber bushings helped alot.
Here is a link to a video someone took of my car where you can hear what the external sounds like.

Dragula, what exactly am I seeing there? Did you build a fuel cell and drop through the trunk or what? It looks nice but I'm definately confused.

There was a car in one of the mags a few years back, a duster called "dust ya" he used a stock tank, but modified a stock sender to mount an efi pump here is a pic. I believe he used a corvette fuel pump.
That's a lot of extra weight to place on a soddered-in stock fuel pickup tube. I would at the least weld up a bracket for the pump going from the pump to the mounting area of the pickup. After seeing an 80's 2.2 carb fuel pickup and an 80's 2.2 turbo fuel pickup I can tell you that's about the only functional difference between the two.
However that raises the issue of a sump. Going through the trouble of rigging up an in-tank efi fuel pump doesn't make much sense if you don't have an in-tank sump to go along with it.

Yes, its sunk, and custom, my design. No 90* bends to heat the fuel, no cheapish stock stuff, and the pump bracket actually handles 2-A1000 pumps.

Wow, that is trick! That gives me some ideas. Oh if I only knew how to run a TIG.

Check out this shop. Nice folks to talk to on the phone, and they do custom stuff if you don't see what you want there. http://www.rickshotrodshop.com/I'm going to have them do the Aeromotive 1000 pump with a pair of #10 lines out/return, and have my stock size tank expanded 1 inch down and a few inches wider on each side. Not sure how much exactly until I fit the 3" TTI tips on the 1970 'Cuda. I'm hoping for 5 more gallons of fuel capacity.

Check out xvmotorsports.com they have fuel tanks for B and E bodies set up for EFI conversions. The price is similar to the one price I saw on ricks hot rod site.

Thanks for the links guys. Unfortunately mine will have to be custom as it is going in to my '65 Sport Fury. People just don't seem to offer much for us C-body guys.

I would not use them. The pics of the stuff they used to have on there showed a lack of understanding on some of the principles of efi and their prices were very high I thought. Although, they are one of the few companies that do them, if you use them, stay away from any re-used stock fuel pumps like they still show in the pics and all 90* bends in the fuel system. Also, I would go aluminum as I did on the fuel cell. No need for stainless. Mine ran me about $400 plus the pump and filter, which I already had. Off the shelf fuel cells don't work very well either for efi. They can be made to work, but not nearly as well as a custom one.
There is more to them than meets the eye, and I incorporated a few tricks into mine to keep the 5/8" pick-up in the fuel at all times... It fits my Cuda with full wheel tubs, leaf springs, roll cage, and wheelie bars....exhaust is out under the doors.

Rock ValleyOn a semi-related note, does anyone have a resource for the LARGE o-rings used to seal some of these pumps? I've got a 2000 Z-28 pump with integral swirl pot that I want to use in my A-body tank, and I need a thicker o-ring to seal the pump to the tank. The 2000 Z-28's used a plastic tank and the lock ring setup can't be swapped in to anything else. I pirated the top of a different GM tank to do something similar to what gdemon did, but the pump fits a little loose in the new top. I kinda don't like a little loose anything in the fuel system, so info or leads to the proper o-rings would be greatly appreciated... I'm sure the same setup could be used on the C-barge tank, with a little fab work. Clair

The earlier F bodies (LT-1 powered, pre '98) used a steel tank, so that might be an option next time around. For the O ring, did you just try and GM dealer? Give Eric (the mod) a PM and bet he can help you out
Using the entire F body fuel tank might even be an easy way to go
I am going LS1 in my old Torana..and I have a sheet aluminum fuel tank for it (repo of the original Bathurst race, long-range style ones) and thinking I will probably go inline pump with it...just working on the engine bay side of the swap now..will get to the fuel system once I get the engine in
