My new engine has shown me I need a bigger radiator. I'm looking for sugustions on how big.
The old radiator is for a Ford Ranger II, it is 18" x 18" x 1", one row core, alum core and plastic tanks. It worked good with my old engine, but it only had 10:1 comp, iron heads and "loose". I could make three 1'8 mile passes, back to back to back and would actually cool down going back to the staging lanes.
New engine has 13.5:1, alum heads and is "fresh". I pull out of staging lanes at 140*, do burn out, make pass and back to the trailer its 195* and takes 10-12 min to come down to 145*. My concern is to not put more than is needed, because of the weight of the water in the radiator.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks, Brian

Call Smith's Radiator at 765-478-5325. They specialize in Mopar radiators for street and strip. They aren't cheap but build a quality piece.
I'm using their radiator in my street 432 Hemi, without a water pump fan, and my temp. stays at 185 degrees all day long.

Don't be in a hurry to get one from Smith's. It took forever to get mine from them.

I run the cheap summit radiator (northern I think) and the HHR fan and I can make back to back passes all day and the car will cool back to 150 or so in short order. I can shoot you some more info or pics later if you like.

Brian...I bought a Griffin when they were on sale at Summit..I think it was around 175.00...Also use a Mezerie water pump...Never had any cooling issues with that setup...

How's it going Brian??????????

Same here, except I use the cheap moroso electric fan, on mine no problems in 3 years with this set up.

Save your $$$$$, go with the summit radiator, will do the job nicely.
