Does Blasting body parts with crushed Glass damage them like sand or is it ok? anything info will help, thanks

I believe it is the pressure and the heat generated form that pressure that causes the problem no the media. Sand requires 70-90 lbs to do its job and that generates a lot of heat. I had my AAR blastered with the pastic media and it turned out awesome. I have actually sand blasted small areas (you could cover with a dollar) on my R/T with out damaging anything. Find someone who uses the plastic and pay the price, you'll be happier in the long run. These are the only two medias I have personal experiences with. I think a member here that goes by Challenger1 has a great deal of experience with blasting, naybe he can help.

Don't use glass beads except for hard items like brackets, hood hinges, trunk hinges, etc, sheet steel reacts to glass bead regardless of air pressure, the metal will swell were struck with the bead abrasive,.....sand is prefered, but messy to remove from all the crevises,.....I'd recommend "black beauty" silicate abrasive, "medium grade", and blast any sheetmetal at a 45 degree angle, and do not concentrate the media on any one area too long, heat is one of your enemies, the constant blasting is equivalant to "Pick hammering" it will affect the area if you stay on it to long!.....the black beauty "rolls" out of the crevises when you blow down the car after, sand just lays there

Crushed glass is way different than glass beads. Crushed glass is much more agressive than beads, its like sand. I used it in a cabinet before.

I'm not sure of the advantage over silica or slag products though. I'm guessing it doesn't last as long.

I had body parts blasted with silica sand. The problem lies with people cranking pressure to get the job done faster. More pressure = more heat = more warp.

I had a 71 cuda blasted and it came out fine.
