I'm not experienced with the old A/C systems and just bought a 72 Scamp with a 318 and tried to charge it with 134. I put in 2 lbs and looked for bubbles in the sight glass and didn't see any. I put in another 1/2 pound and no change. The compressor stays on but the low side is at 0 and the high side is at 100. The only place that gets at all cold is by the valve by the firewall but not inside. To my knowledge the low side hose should get cold up to the evap core. I am looking for help with the low pressures and wondering what the original capacity was. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Craig

It sounds like the expansion valve is stuck. It could also be that the drier is blocking flow. I would suggest replacing them both. I would also suggest replacing the low pressure switch with a High/Low switch.

Try adding more refridgerant, both pressures are low.If the exp valve is stuck open your low side pressure would be higher I would think. If you have a obstruction in the dryer the tube should feel cooler after the dryer and I would expect the high side pressure to read higher.I would try adding another pound and see what your gauges read.should be 150-175 on high side and 30-40 on low side.Good luck.

Can you bang on the valve and try to free it or can yo tave it apart and try to free it up? By High/Low switch do you mean a adjustable one? Does any one have a place to see the breakdown of parts or know where replacement parts are available? Thanks Craig
