Im starting to run the new brake lines and having trouble locating the right line...
I need a part number for the soft rubber line that comes off the frame or chassis that runs to the Y-Block mounted on the rearend housing. This line is slightly lager than the lines running to each side of the axle off the Y-Block...The small lines are 3/16 and looks like the larger line I need may be 1/8 inch Inverted flare but not 100% sure..
The parts store could only pull up a complete line with the Y block attached for like $40...
I thought I might need a longer than normal line, maybe off a 4x4 truck or something.

I used one on the rear of the 64 that's from a mid 90s ford truck. It's a couple inches longer. Got a vent tube bolt from the same year truck and drilled and tapped the housing. It's on Dana 60 and didn't have vent in it yet. Its still in the process.

Guess I will just buy the hose a Y block assembly...Its a shame you cant get the correct parts any more, you stuck with buying inferior aftermarket China Junk....
Thats what Advance and Autozone carries now....China Junk...If the part was made over here and at one time had good parts, all thats left is the base part with new china junk.
And what happened to old school parts guys...Where you could walk into the store say hey, I need a fitting for my Master Cylinder that is a 5/16 inverted flare TO a 3/16 inverted flare..they say OK..walk back and grab one off the shelf....
Now they turn and look at the computer, and say whats that for?

I agree totaly but what else can we do? Those sure were the good ole days. Some parts guys don't even know what your talking about unless they can find it on the computer.

I did the same thing when I needed a rear flex line, took in my old crusty one to NAPA, told them I wanted one longer, solved the problem of what does it fit ? by saying just go and look what you have cause I don't know what it fits. That's the worse part of getting old car parts, the stupid counter guy doesn't know what a part is, just a # in the computer.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I kind of think yea.
Don't even get me started on parts counter guys.
With a '65 Dart that has 73-76 A body front brakes , large bolt pattern rear axles and is soon to be an R-3 / W-9 ............ I can't even explain to them what I have.
Heck....... I was replacing the rear brake line on a Mazda pick up with bulk line and unions......I showed the gal at NAPA what I had and what I wanted , then volunteered to go back and get it myself. ( I have been going to this store for nearly 20 years , but she is new )
She got all huffy and said " I'll get it " and sent me home with the wrong fitting.
So I am back there 20 minutes later and she still had to be right.
I am old enough to remember when parts guys were also car guys.
But you can't get a good car guy for 8.00 an hour anymore.

The thing is us type are 1 in a thousand...they carry tens of thousands of parts.....autozone/advance are not parts store for the musclecar type....maybe try out your local carquest type store...I've got one about 5 mins away that know their stuff.
