Since I'm replacing most of the ignition system, it only makes sense to go with a new coil too, as mine is an unknown age unit. What is a good coil to buy? I'd really just like one I can run without a ballast resistor. Any suggestions?

the epoxy filled MSD Blaster vibration proof is a great choice. The "e-core" types are good too. Oil-filled is old school, but works.

The FBO coil can handle 8.5-11.0 volts .

since I rencently learnt that MP coil is the same MSD Master Blaster 2, would go for MP one ( if you want stock kind coil, but high performance output )

If not, then some MSD "dry" ( not internal oil ) kind

As for FBO, I tried two of those, both didn't work worth a darn. This was before I installed the MSD unit, back when I was running a stock dizzy.
