I want to put a later model transmission and rear end in my 1961 Chrysler. I want to get away from the driveshaft drum brake and the tapered axles and have a real park position in the transmission. I want to keep the push button transmission controls, and I know the 1965 transmission was the last one to use cable shift. Can I shift the 1965 727 torqueflite with the push buttons in my chrysler? If this won't work, does anybody know of any way to use a later model transmission with the push buttons and cable shift?

Also, can anyone tell me if later model C-body disk brakes will fit my 61 New Yorker?

The 727 pushbutton cable will work with the '61 pushbutton quadrant but you won't have any provisions to activate the second cable for the Park mechanism.

I took care of this problem in my '57 NY by mounting a separate Park lever under the dash.

imperial services makes some sort of linkage piece that lets you use a 66 and up transmission with the old pushbutton and cable shifted stuff.
Pushbutton one is expensive. 350 as I recall.
