Has anyone modified an 8.25" axle case with 2.45 gears to accept a larger ring gear (2.94+)? I've heard it can be done, but I'd like to hear some firsthand pointers before I go nuts with a grinder.

I believe they made a spacer and longer bolts a few years ago. Don`t know if it is still available. Nothing to grind. Mike

Are you talking about the axle case/housing (giant assembly) or the differential case? I think only the differential - the part the ring gear bolts to - needs to be swapped out. A sure grip diff for an 8.25 is probalby cheap enough to not worry about finding a spacer ring, at least in my book it would be.
