Can the late model 89-96ish alt be regulated internal or do they have to externally regulated?

I used a toyota 4runner bosh alt. It is internally regulated 60 amp unit on my small block. I made my brackets, but you can by them from Magnum HP. In the tech archive is the part number for the alt and years of the 4 runner. Very happy with the results.

I'm running the 60 amp alternator. I like it, and it charges way better at idle than any factory alt I've ever tried. I got it with the brackets from Mancini's. It's internally regulated, but has a 12v sense wire that needs to be connected at either the starter relay or to the battery.
