I took the T/A stall conv. and tranny out of my car today to re- inspect the internal of the tranny. (It has 2o miles on it, and I had a fluid pressure problem. I didn't realize that a turbo action convert. uses a babbit ring that seale the front pump on the tranny. I used a normal "bearing type looking" seal. It is now stuck on the pump side of the convertor. How do I get it back off with out hurting the conv. I am going to install the correct one this time. Do I have to carefully cut it off with a cutting wheel? Thanks, jason

The babbit ring is the pump bushing, separate from the seal.

If you're real careful you can remove it with a cutting wheel, I would prefer to pull/press it off; you don't want any blemishes on the hub surface.

While most factory bushings are bronze there is nothing wrong with a babbit bushing, many converter manufacturers insist on them. If the bushing seized the hub there is a problem with clearance or lubrication.

Well, we think it did it on initial start up. It was a new tranny and motor. We broke in the motor, and had tranny trouble from the beginning. The tranny onlly has about 20-25 miles on it, but is was in nuetral for the entire 20 minute break in period.
