Years ago I mentioned putting one of my racing Torqflights in a streetcar,my trans. builder said " it won`t like being in a slow heavy car"
What would/is the shortcomings of a RACE auto in a streetcar?
Has TurboAction V/B.
Race conv. WON`T be used.

I put a Turbo Action race trans with stock converter and Cheetah valve body in my Lil Red Express truck back in the early 80's.Never had any problems with it.

I would think the harder shifts might be a pain .
also if the absorber springs were removed it could be hard on the trany .
If it is a mild build it should be right at home on the street

if you're not going to use a super high stall converter you should be o.k. providing you have a decent tranny cooler. i run a 4000 stall converter on the street with a good tranny cooler, i havn't had any issues.

WHY waste a race trans on the street... they shift hard
and if its a manual shift you are always shifting it,
there is a reason the factory didnt do it and in
you big ride its just not fun

only way I can see it making any difference is if it has an aluminum drum. other than that it shouldn't be a problem. we have done it many times in years past. with an 8" race converter also

I had a B&M competition 727 with a RMVB in my '65 Dodge when I first put it on the street. It was a lot of fun and suffered no damage. I later decided to put my interior all back to stock though and put a regular automatic in while I was at it.

As long as you don't mind the firm shifts, and manually shifting it all the time, the trans itself will be fine.

The only way it wouldn't be, is if it had an aluminum high gear drum...

SHIFTING all-the-time ? ... if you have a ballsey motor ... no need to.

I have a 62 Plymouth with a torquey 440, a 65 Hemi converter and a 2.76 gear.

Street driving it normally ...I take-off in THIRD GEAR ...and YES with a 2.76 gear. It does not take-off like a rocket-ship .. but it keeps up with traffic fine.

No ProblemO ....

My "street" car has race shocks,4.10 Dana with a race spool,4200 race convertor, turbo action race transbrake, racing suspension,10 point race cage,etc.,etc., It won't hurt a thing, drive it like you stole it everytime you get in it or buy a minivan

My 63 is a street/strip car and I love driving it on the street with my reverse manual valve body. I built the trans myself but it is mostly stock parts with the manual v/b and a bolt in overrunning clutch. I also use a Dynamic 9.5 street/strip converter that flashes about 4200 at the track and drives great on the street. Ron

I have a full manual transmission in my street/strip car, as much fun as it is the attention of the tyre chirp in the gear change is enough to be a pain, here in Queensland one chirp & its impounded with a $1500 instant fine & a free ticket to court, after the dust has settled & the smoke has cleared I can have my car back only after ALL fines, towing charges & impound fees are paid in full,

over here they call it the new hoon laws!

I`ve got 10 years on my 727 that`s in the dart now and it was origionally a Pro-Trans deal then was freshioned up 5 years ago by Darrell Parks and rollerized at that time. No problems at all even w/4.11`s and an 8" vert but, a trans cooler is a must. I run a rmvb cheetah and LOVE shifting on the street. One thing that I`ve learned over the years is that a HARD shift is bad but a good solid FIRM shift is where it`s at..........Trans-go valve bodies gave a bang shift instead of a firm shift my cheetah gives.

If it doesn't have the deep pan on it, it will drain the stock pan and burn the clutches on the 2-3 shift....
