I'm looking to buy a set of rockers to use on my max wedge clone motor. I'll be running a street solid roller, and was thinking of using a set of steel rockers from RAS, however I'd like to see what all my options are. The three main considerations are that they must handle solid roller spring pressures (200 seat, 500 open), live under street driving conditions (though no more than 1000 miles a year) and fit under a set of '63 4 bolt valve covers. Any recommendations?

Harland Sharp do not, which I suppose is useful to know what not to get. DRAM went with stamped steel Moroso valve covers for the 452 in my 70RR and they cleared the Harland Sharps. You could paint them orange and not a lot of people would notice.

Wrong

Harland's do fit under the stock covers. So do T&D's, RAS, Crane Golds, and Comp's. Sometimes you need to clearance the baffle(the adjuster screws hit). 5 minutes with a drill bit and you are in business.

Several engines I have built with Harlands with the stock covers and no problems.

Don't double up the gaskets. They will likely leak if you do....

Just reporting the experience DRAM had. We had already clearanced the baffles for the stock iron rockers that were on there originally. The heads are Edelbrocks so maybe a difference there, even though they use stock valve trains.

Does it matter what ratio is used, as far as valve cover clearance is concerned?

While I haven't tried all combinations, I haven't run into any problems yet.
