The 70 challenger that dad recently got has a 318 in it bored out so it is fairly close to a 340. The previous owner installed an Edelbrock LD340 4 bbl intake on it and has headers for the exhaust. We are looking to get a somewhat stock appearance and were hoping that the 340 exhaust manifolds would work on this car. Dad found a 1970 Chrysler cast iron 4 bbl intake fairly cheap and also has located a correct 340 snorkle-less air cleaner housing as well.

Can this be done and fit correctly or no?

Thanks for your answers.

Brian

No reason why not.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

We have the stock 318 cast iron exhaust manifolds that came with the car also. The car currently has headers on it. We are looking to find a set of 340 cast iron exhaust manifolds but wanted to see if they will bolt up first before we got them and found out they didn't fit or work. The car currently has a true dual exhaust and we are trying to keep it that way. The stock 318 ex. manfilds went to a y pipe and then to a single exhaust.

The stock 340 manifolds have bigger exhaust ports then whats on the 318 heads but they will seal up just fine if you use the 340 exhaust gasket. The bolt pattern is the same too but you will probably want to pick up the correct reproduction hardware.

In the early 80's, I put the 340 Hi-PO style manifolds on my 318 Challenger, & they worked great. I still have them on the car, although the manifolds are now bolted to Eddy heads on the same 318 motor.
