Let's hear the good, the bad and the ugly.

How close is the HP rating?

What rear gear are you running?

Streetability?

Any probs?

Warranty?

Anything else I should watch out for?

Never bought a crate motor before, so give it to me. Slated for my '76 Duster w/904 and 8-1/4"

They live up to the HP easily. But they are very rumpity. You need a converter and gear.

You really should talk to Troy @Westoaks 1-800-748-6118 up in Thousand Oaks, Ca. He's probably sold more SB crate motors than any other MP dealer. He knows all the trials and tribulations, ups and downs, and the tricks.

One of the mopar mags dynoed it a few years ago. Got just over 400hp with a well tuned distributor and demon carb IIRC.

Great engine, nice beat to it and makes plenty power. As mentioned earlier, need a converter at least. I had a DYnamic 9.5" converter (VERY streetable and highway friendly) with just 3.23 gears and it moved out very well, nice hole shots!

One thing I did notice, when coming dow a long steep hill with vac assist brakes, pedal will get harder unless I coasted in neutral. Other than that, the power brakes worked aok!

I had what amounted to one---bought the shortblock and used my ported magnum heads on it--that thing screamed. Mine had a little more compression though, and like i said ported heads too, but i was very impressed knowing that the one in the big blue box from mopar couldnt be far behind mine. Ran it in a stickshift dartsport with 4.56 gears.

Outcast Dodge guy.

You've been given good information so far, however....

MP has not produced the 360/380 crate engine since
2005.

It's replacement, the 360/390, has not been produced in over a year.

Sooooo.... if you manage to find one, it's likely been sitting in BillyBob's damp garage for three years and what warranty it came with (90 days from date of purchase, NOT date of installation) is long gone.

Great. Now what are my choices?

How much are those running? I have about a $4,500 budget.

It cost about 3,800 for it with shipping i went direct not thru jegs. This the 408 base version comes dnyo with a sheet my came in at 386hp and 459tq i think it is a 18 month warranty.

Runs good minor problems they used cheap paint, respray it.

I had to reindex the oil pump shaft gear to get number 1 to point in the right direction.

The dipstick hit the crank but that might of been my fault as i pulled the tube out when i installed the motor.

I have about 4000 miles on it and been give it a good whooping so far no problems.

Looks like they are a little cheaper thru jegs these days.

The Blueprint series engines are built by Marshall Engines. The Post Office has a national contract with Marshall for replacement 2.5 Chevy engines,so far they seem to be doing well.
