I currently have a 496 max wedge head, 12.5. 256/260@50 587/600, with a 1050 dominator. I am running an indy single plane and am concidering switching to the indy 2d dual plane. Has anyone done a back to back comparison. with my duration of 256/260 (torque peak @ 4800 rpm) will the dual plane work very well? I would like to go back to the stock hood.

The ICH dual plane is a good manifold and another option is the MP337 single plane if you can locate one. We did a bunch of testing on my 572 pump gas build and both were strong. You would need to go with a 4150 style carb as neither have a Dominator flange. Here's a thread on the buildup with comparative data & dyno numbers. https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=0#Post5622009Ron

Ron's write-up was very insightful and although I've bought a 337 manifold I've been reluctant to change out my 440-2D on my 517 low deck (Chapman Max wedge heads) because it just seems so perfectly matched to the motor and even with killer 380 cfm heads I can't find a flaw in the power up top. I've run the big Indy single before and I found it's very "light switch" like in terms of power, even with 500" the A/F seems to get a little confused which way to go below 4000rpm so the torque is a bit soft on the street. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jd8GeXYYkKUBut I have several hours of hand porting in my 2D and I'd like to test it back to back against an OOTB MW 2D straight from indy or a 337, the 2d has 3 Weaker ports (#7) especially so they take some radius work to bring them up to par, so that may just be the difference in matching up to the 337. Ron and Brian (Oldschool) were VERY helpful to me....both did back to back testing and went with the 337 on their 572 inchers. With about 10% more cubes they're motors have that big torque advantage so with my heads I've got to spin mine up a bit tighter to stay in the similar HP range, my thoughts with the 337 was to port it slightly (the as-delivered port cross sections are about 10% smaller than the full 2.6" x 1.3" Maxies) and maybe bridgeport it for a Dommy or try the new Pro systems SV1 (huge one barrel 4150) on it, I don't know. I'm in the process of swapping back to a 4 speed which means I won't need as much of the 2d's killer mid-range, my gut is that the comparison on my motor might be too close to call, but remember the 2D needs a bit of work in the lower plenum.

i make 700 hp with my 500" motors and the indy dualplane.without a question the best one out there.it will fit under a stock hood,no problem.i even use a 1/2 spacer on mine. today i'm dynoing one of my 500" motors.i will be trying: indy dualplane 440-d indy 440-3 indy 440-2 w/ 2" rise spacer to a 4500 dominator mopar 337 the dualplane will be very hard to beat.the others might make more horsepower but the torque will be a different story.i use mine in a street car,so torque matters. i will post all the results and graphs.my combo is: 500" 13.1 cr cnc sr,s flowed 367@.700" solid roller 272/276 @.050 .702" guessing about 700-725 hp 650-675 tq tigger, where in va. do you live? i'm in va.beach

Brian, Looking forward to that test, real similar motor to mine....wish I'd have known a little sooner I could have shipped you my 2d to compare.

Great info, Brian! I still kinda think my lower plenum mods would pretty much even up the HP/TQ score, kind of suprised the torque peak was lower with the 2D though, at what RPM did the 337 take over? Did you port match the 337 or did you run it out of the box? I was suprisedthat as delivered the 337 ports are not full MW sized, kind of 1/2 way between Maxie and 906....my old stage VI's and ported Street Dominator were a tad larger than that ....which leads me to believe the 337 could actually work on a 906 sized head if it were opened up to match.

hey bobby, yeah i had the ports port matched.i was supprised the ports were alot smaller,as cast too.i guess alittle smaller is better than alittle to big. did you see the averages? the dualplane did real well in that respect.almost the best.the dualplane had more torque down low, than any of the others.
