Tonite We lowered the car on to the motor/trans. I had both valve covers off. We got it into place. I put the Indy covers back on. Problems I see are
1- Right valve cover hits the right shock tower right in line with the upper shock mounting bolt.

2- The steering box sits against the left frame rail.

3- The pitman arm and left innner tie rod rub on my TTI headers.

Need ideas from hemi owners as to what I should do to correct these issues. My K-Frame was done by a guy in Wisconsin. It was the wedge K-frame that was original to the car. This is my first hemi so I would rather ask before I act. Thanks.

the guy in wisconsin did my k-frame too and the steering box wouldn't even bolt up flush. had to cut about 1/2 inch from the brace behind it and beat it back. guy basically told me sorry about your luck

What did the guy in WI "do" to your k frame?

We've done plenty of hemis and never had an issue.

Well from the sounds of it he took a wedge k-member and made it a hemi k-member.

OK, we've never done that.

For a clone, it's much more cost effective to use adapter mounts.

For the real thing, we've bought many originals for fair prices.

Or we've used the ones from: http://www.rockymountainmopar.com/hemiprod.html#KFrame

If somebody screwed up your K member, it might be worth paying them a visit.

Thats exactly what he did. It looked like a nice job. My headers a 2 1/8 TTI. I will get it rolling and look at it closer. Seems to me there has been others that have posted with valve cover to tower issues as well as header to pitman issues. Just looking for others that have done this. I dont want to throw the k-frame conversion guy under the bus just yet. I need to see if I have pictures of the gear box in the car before I took it out.

If your frame rails are straight, its has to be the k member or the engine mounts or both. The k member is like the spine, if its off everything will be effected.

I did this swap recently using Schumacher motor mounts on my stock V8 K member and using 2-1/8" TTI headers. Stock stamped Hemi valve covers. Everything lined up perfect w/no issues. Maybe I just got lucky!

Well I am glad yours went right. I did mine this way to avoid the possible issues. I maybe over reacting a bit. Once I get a few more items in place I will have it sitting on tires maybe tomorrow. Then I can assess it a bit better. It seems like the gear box it tight to the tower. I ahve pics of it before but they were to dirty and crudded up to see how far the gear box is away from the tower.

While I was going to recommend this is probally the best way to do the swap useing the Schumacher mounts, other than factory original parts,....but kinda late as Pete has already invested in the altered K frame,......you may be able to shim the passengers side mount a "little" to gain some clearance on the shock tower ( the big cast covers make it VERY tight)....but another POSSIBLE problem to focus on is the steering selector shaft clearance with the big tube HEMI TTI's,....you may have to use Flameing Rivers splined U joint assy to "sneak" by the header tube should this be an issuse using the factory knuckle,......IMHO Pete, you might want to cut a loss with the exsisting K frame if it turns into a real nightmare and run the Schmachers on a stock B/RB K,.....I know it'
s not what you want to hear

My 69 Hemi RR had the original K and the PS box was tight against the frame. I never did figure it out except I had a replacement steering box from Steer and Gear that was not original to the car? Is a Hemi PS box special?

No, other than the pump hoses/fittings/...and/or cooler if equipped

Indy now makes pass. side valve covers that supposedly clears the shock mount.

Pete,
I am guessing you purchased this from us. Send us some pictures so we can look them over and see if we can help figure it out. You will want to talk to Roy if you call. As I will just pass it on to him anyway as he is more of the tech guy!

We have had very few issues out of the few hunderd we have sold. To build the jigs we used a mixture of NOS and used original K-Frames I do not think 2 of them were the same.
BTW there are two places in WI making these. If this is our K-Frame we will work on making it right as we have done on the few others that had issues.
prochargedhemi I do not know if you purchased one from us. If you did I cannot imagine my dad told you tough luck. I do not recall hearing of a steering box not fitting flush?? That plate is not removed. There are brackets to make sure it is in the proper position during welding built in the jigs.

The engine will not fit unless you take pass side valve cover off before lowering , I see u did that

The Schumakers will not work with every car , neither do the arruzas

The Wisconsin guy did my GTX kframe

he did a NICE JOB , and i have a set of arruza if you want to try ?

What Kind of car ?

I have the Megaparts frame in my Hemi Runner, using a manual steering box and cast iron manifolds, the engine fit is perfect.
Like they said the steering box plate is not affected by the motor mount conversion..
the Indy valve covers are a known problem as there are now covers from them that fit.
Big tube headers not fitting is nothing new.
Are you using factory heads? or larger aftermarket castings?
