has anyone here put a g.m. front stub on a late 50's mopar?? i've got a 59 dodge that i've been slowly working on the body. i took the torsion bar adjusting bolt completley out and added a 3" block in the rear. LOVE the way it sits like that....i do have a g.m. front clip that we want to make fit (for cheap dropped spindles etc. and to have some ride quality sitting low) anyone have some experience doing this on on of these??? let me know the good or the bad!

IIRC from my '72nova there was quite a bit of steel associated with the subframe. I'd suggest using a MustangII suspension, I believe there are even more options for that than for the Nova sub. Look at the other posts here lately about front suspension. fatman Fabrications comes to mind as someone who may have a MII crossmsmber for your car.

while I have not done any 50's mopars the princapal of using a nova/camero frontend is still the same.
I have put a nova unit under a 36 dodge for a guy and used them under a few 48 chevy PU's and panal trucks. they worked out good in those cars and trucks

if you already have one then I would use it, they are a little harder to do than a fatman unit but they are much cheaper if you already it.

they can be mounted to the stock chassis a little higher to make the car set lower and not have to get dropped spindles.

I would measure the width of the stock frame and the nova and see how close they are to mate up.

I usally cut the subframe about a foot past the A arms or right where it turns down.

but I have seen guys just use the whole subframe and weld it under their frame. pesonally I like to make them flow into the stock frame Ron...

thanks ron!, that's pretty much what i was thinking too...(cutting it right behind the a arms, and mounting it higher) do you think hood clearance will be an issue? i already have it,and it's free! do you remember if the steering box causes any problems with a big block or exhaust?? sorry for so many vauge questions!

hood clearence should not be a problem unless you get carried away mounting it way to high onto your frame

is yours the one with the steering box in front or behind the A arms????

I would use the one with the box mounted out front to give yourself more engine room.
I don't know how good a BB will fit in the subframe as the one I did in the 36 dodge went with a 360, that fit perfect

now a mustang style frontend will give you more engine room because of the front mounted rack and placement of the crossmember.

like I said in the other frontend thread not all frontends work with all cars, some work better in different application. I still think that the nova frontend (if the box is up front)will work great in your car, you will just have to work motor mounts and exaust Ron....
